Bob was a teacher and I worked at the high school for a couple of years. I choose not to be a part of Facebook for multiple reasons, some of them mentioned by Jason, even though friends and family have asked me to 'friend them'. I would be interested in hearing from those who use Facebook as to why they prefer to communicate there instead of here about our cruise. Is there some reason you prefer that site? I ask because I have never used it so don't know what advantages it might have.
Since I haven't read it myself, I also need to ask, have decisions about this groups activities actually been made over on Facebook? Is it more then just individuals sharing their plans? I don't believe anyone intended to exclude or hurt peoples feelings, but I think it is very important we clear this up so as not to have a riff here. The more excitement generated through talk about this cruise the better for all of us. However, I agree that DISboard group decisions and the sharing of ideas leading to those decisions should be made on the DISboard. VAL
There has been an awful lot of discussion over on the FB page that was set up for this cruise. I really don't know if actual decisions have been made though as I am involved with our September cruise at the moment so haven't been on that one over much. My reply was to Jan who was talking about a post on lanyards and FE gifts over there but the lady that asked the question also asked on here. I just thought that because it is a Dis cruise meet then everything other than chit chat would be better here for the reasons you state. Perhaps someone who frequents that page more would know more.
I may be able to offer some info here....
Facebook vs, DIS use ---
FB is much, much easier for me because I often have trouble with loading DIS. It's fast, convenient, can be loaded anyplace (best way to communicate when I'm traveling because of that). This may be unique to me, but I have issues with the DIS often - not only does it usually take forever to load when I'm on a computer other than at home, but I will often get a server too busy notice, or it may be very slooooow.
On FB it is more than easy to chat because it is easily accessible, and I'm on it frequently because of my family (pics from afar) and my work.
As for
decision making going on there...not really!!!

Personally, I have only seen chatting. Sometimes someone may duplicate info there because others may be on FB more (it's a means of communication in a lot of areas - family, friends, work, news, etc.)....I have several groups there that I chat with as well, from work to recipes to cruises!
Privacy issues are easily controlled on FB, by the way.
There are a zillion ways to control it using their features on the site. I'm a retired teacher, and a bit of a private person anyway, so I basically control privacy issues by employing a few simple rules....
I never put anything personal or private on the site to begin with (you don't need a lot in your profile), I never use the applications (cause for spam & privacy issues), and I never open links that are posted unless I know it is a trusted site. That's it, in a nutshell - no privacy invaded, when caution is used.
But I do love the DIS and try to visit daily (I have 3 planning boards going!), and 3 FB groups for upcoming cruises - it just adds to the excitement & I get to associate FACES with DIS usernames - that part is great!!
Hope this offers some info as to why FB is helpful for some of us.
