April 29, 2012 ~ Aloha! ~ Wonder to Hawaii- who is with me?

We did the WBPC in 2008 with them. I didn't get to see much of anybody that cruise (long story), but know how sweet they are from staying in touch on DIS threads. Wonderful couple! :thumbsup2

 You are embarassing me! :flower3: But, thank you for the kind words.

I started a spreadsheet for linking resies for late dinner and for those interested in a group Palo Brunch

Right now we can't do much more than put our names on the list. As we get closer, I will post details about information I need and how the whole process works. I've done this for the EBTA and 1 other cruise, so I am happy to organize this. We will need someone else to organize 1st seating dinner linkage. Let me know if you want me to create a spreadsheet for that. :thumbsup2

The fire dancers are Samoan and not Hawaiin so I doubt they will have any one the ship. Also plan a few days at DL but unless I win the Florida Lottery I will not be staying on property. If I get to a Disneyland hotel the am of the cruise can I use DCL transfers? I may stay one night one points if I can get in and one night at Candy Cane Inn.

I don't think we are listed under "Find your 2012 Wonder Cruise"..does anyone know about this?..not that it's hard to find this thread with so many folks posting constantly!

Anyone from Seattle on this cruise?

I found it, but not on the first page -- it was a few pages in. I wondered why it wasn't in the list on the first page.

My husband and I live in Everett, just north of Seattle. This is my first post on this thread, as I'm trying to read the whole thing -- all 60+ pages -- before I get too involved in posting. My husband Harry joined the Facebook group. (I don't do Facebook myself, not enough time in the day.) We just booked a gty on Tuesday.

Pretty sure a few people around here will recognize us from the 2005 WBPC, or the 2006 11 night Southern Caribbean, or the first EBTA (in 2007? I forget!). :wave2::wave2: Anyway, Harry and I finally got married last May 14 (the fifth anniversary of the day we met, plus my birthday), so this cruise will be a wonderful second anniversary present for us. For our first anniversay next month we are doing a short three day cruise on the Dream -- our first time on the new ship!

Greetings from Bellevue :) We should have a DIS WA meet before the cruise! I think there is at least one more person from the Seattle area on this thread.

I agree with Val. The Wonder going to LA was left out in the cold by all the fuss for the Dream. The service was not up to Disney standards and there were so many new CM-no one really knew what to do. Hopefully , the Fantasy will not overshadow the Hawaiian cruise.

I so agree with what you said here. Even the 'send off' by the Dream was really just showcasing her, lovely as she is! I was so fed up of hearing about the Dream. I know some fellow cruisers just felt we were second class guests. The Castaway Club get together was 80% about the Dream! We wondered if the Wonder crew felt let down by the lack of a proper send off and all the fuss about the new ship too.

This is my biggest fear about this cruise. That is why I have been encouraging everyone to write to DCL.

What would you say in an email about this Alan as I would send one. To be honest, the Wonder going from her home port of however many years, possibly for good, was more important than a cruise to Hawaii which they will probably do regularly in the future.

Cool. I always wanted a twin. I think I don't want to go to the beach because I live about a mile from a beach here in Los Angeles so I don't need a vacation to swim, snorkel or whatever in the ocean. I can do that in my back yard.

We have beaches a short drive away - too cold for swimming IMO but largely you get the beach to yourself. With places like Fiji, Samoa, Tonga all short flights away, I have no desire to go a beach. That and the fact that I detest sand and hate the way I feel after swimming in salt water...

I am hoping Ducky will be on this cruise!!! If there is a special D&B purse for this sailing, I am saving up now!

Seriously, does he ever get off the ships? :rotfl2:

I would NEVER wait in a line that long for anything ! They had Ali & Aj on our cruise and meet & greet, autograph & pic.

Saw the line, had never heard of them...

Over a year to go and here I am wondering if we will have linked dining, room tours- candy, postcard and scrapbook exchanges and will Paula have a bag of books outside her cabin door? Is that considered overplanning?

Not crazy, just organised! But I'm not doing the book exchange this time, we are on deck 2 so am leaving that in the safe hands of another Diser (can't remember who - sorry!)

I love those luggage scales. Can't live without ours that for sure. Life is much easier now.

We got a set too after we were very close to being overweight on our WBTA - that was nearly 5 weeks of travel with a 25kg limit ...

Is this for an initial booking with them or the amount for a transfered booking?
.

I got it for an initial booking.

I too think Ducky will be on the cruise. As far as the litho goes it is one per cabin. I asked. To see if my Mom could get one and the answer was no.

If your Mom has a separate address, then you should get two (that is my understanding). Also be sure to check the lithos that the cert matches - we had a mismatched cert with our WBTA but luckily MrsMork had told us to check.

I'm all for a book exchange! My favorite EBTA story was the crew member who literally burst into tears when she heard the books would be donated to the crew library at the end of the cruise. She was HUGELY touched. It was cool!
How about linking resies for Dinner? If anyone is interested, I can work on these too. At least for 2nd seating!

I dropped off the books after the WBTA and GS were thrilled to receive them!

I'd like to link dining with someone(s) but I'm not going to volunteer to organise it ;)

If someone is organizing a dis pin trading session, I will be there! I don't have any DCL pins, just collect the ones we like from disney cm's and ebay.

I have lots to trade, I will trade any of my pins for ANY disney pins so just ask if you see me around - I usually have a few in my pocket - I don't like wearing them on a lanyard.

Traditional Hawaiian, doesn't have fire dancers, that actually came from other Polynesian islands. But who knows maybe they could get special permission like they did for the fireworks? ;)

I have no desire to see fire dancers, we see them all the time in New Zealand - we have a large Samoan population and it ties in with the Maori culture nicely too.

So looking forward to this cruise more than ever - we had another huge earthquake aftershock (5.4) this evening... totally over it!

Honestly I am just hopping that with enough emails the Wonder will not get over looked again. I was reading somewhere, mouseplanet I think, that the head of DCL Carl Holtz said this is a test cruise so they really want to see the guest feedback on this intenerary.

Green eyed monster has me on that one. I always hope I win Jiminy. No such luck so far.

I felt lucky to win one...any one. Of course my youngest daughter wanted Minnie and eldest daughter was hoping for Alice, I was just happy to get one. When I walked out of the theatre people were offering me money for it or offers to swap what others had won, I didn't even realise how cool it was until the offers started coming in. :goodvibes
Fingers crossed you can win a Jiminy, or any one and maybe swap, He does quite a few in one show. :thumbsup2

The problems we are talking about are from this last PC in Jan on the Wonder. The really messed up that's why I hope others will send a email so history will not repeat itself for a third time
Thanks Alan, I didn't reaslise it had been so recent and surprises me how badly it was handled. I am not a pin collector myself, we do have quite a few, but just buy ones that the kids admire.
Corinna, I watched your video, WOW!
I am happy to write a letter, but don't want to get the facts wrong and sounds silly. Alan, would you be willing to do a quick draft of what I and others should write? Thanks :thumbsup2

I just checked my confirmation on the DU website and it still says February 13th.

My paperwork, and the website says 31 December for me, and I am silver. Weird, so many different dates floating around.
Lets hope this is not signs of things to come - disorganisation!

Well he will certainly get lots of feedback, but it might not be the kind he wants!:lmao: We repeat cruisers are a demanding bunch

Funny you say disorganization. That is what happened. So instead of me drafting a form letter, becides I think it better to have each letter have it's own saying and personality, just say that you have seen a video and have heard stories. And now with all these PIF dates, looks like history is repeating itself yet again.

That is so true. I guess that is why we should address the concerns now. They have a year to work it out. Then it very well maybe Mr. Holtz will get a ton of positive feedback and very little negative.

Welcome!
Mark has just returned from weeks working in Seattle and will be travelling back later this year...... I'm hoping to come too :woohoo: ......... Maybe we should all have a mini meet!

Thanks for doing this. I have added myself to the Brunch.

February 13th is not really a new date. DU always gives their final payment date one day earlier than DCL to allow for technical issues with the payment process, etc.

I think there are three different payment dates: December 1st, December 31st and February 14th. I am sure they will sort this out nearer the time.

Corinna

We are Gold Castaway Club members. On the DCL site it says we can book excursions from January 15th as long as we are paid in full. Are you Silver then Corinna? Is that why you have a later date?

The PIF date is all messed up. I will be Platium and I have a 2/14/12 PIF date, my friend is silver and has a 12/31/11 and my mom is Gold and has a 12/1/11

Congratulations Beth and Harry! Will be nice to see you again

 I looked at the itinerary map, and we're sailing the wrong way from Hilo to Maui, so there is no possible way for us to sail Kilauea at night. If you look at the map posted by birkner here (click arrow next to birkner),we sail up from Hilo directly to Kahalui, instead of down around towards Kailua-Kona by Kilauea! I'm so sad, that was the most beautiful and awesome sight watching the lava flow into the ocean.

Thanks, I'm still pretty concerned. :scared: I guess the point is moot at this point since I'm GTY, but I will ponder it and see if I can calm my concerns.

What's a wave phone? What are they used for? If they are used to keep in touch on the ship, boy I need one for my teenager!

:surfweb:

The itinerary map is drawn by artists. We had someone ask Captain Thord on the 2008 WBPC cruise why the utinerary was changed since we cruised differently than the picture on the postcards and advertisements. Captain Thord said the art department does not ask the captains for the route.

I figure there will be a lot of details that Disney has considered and plans to do that we do not know yet. Like on old spy movies:
"That's on a need to know basis and you don't need to know."

I am a PLANNER but am trying to ramp that down and enjoy today instead--NOT EASY !

Wave phones are in the rooms, to carry around, work on the ship and CC, are charged to your bill if you take them home and work better than walkie talkies.

I am not doing FE but it sounds like everyone wants to plan on groups of 25 so those making gifts could start when they want to. If sign up rolls around and you have enough for two groups, sign up for two groups. Or if you have extra bring them along for spontaneous gifting of non-DIS friends you might make on the ship or CMs.

12/31 is the date that makes the most sense, 120 days seems to be the PIF date they used for other special itineraries. What was the PIF for the Dream or is the PIF for the Fantasy 'maiden' voyages.
