We are doing the tour, can't remember if it is the 1:00 or 1:30 tour. val

Are there any D23 members going to the D23 Day at The Walt Disney Studios and Archives? This is the first time I have had a chance to go to an event since it is on the day before the cruise and we will be in town. Has anyone been on a Studio or Archives tour before? Is it worth doing?
We went last year and it is very fun. They take you lots of places, a lot of interesting info. We met Dave Smith in the archives, got to hold an Oscar and see the first ticket sold to Disneyland. We shopped in the employee store as well. It was 4-5 hours as I recall.

Gosh,we've been married 43 years this July, but my DW doesn't call me a cute chick :rolleyes1

ALBERT!! :sad2: I do not call HIM a cute chick, he calls me a cute chick. :lovestruc
YOU NEED TO GET BUSY on that. ::yes:: Start now calling Ann a cute chick :thumbsup2

You beat us by a month--Aug 2, 1969.
(Not quite, but almost 43 years so I counted it all. :rotfl:)

Last year we wanted to go "home" to the country where I'm coming from, but then something came up and tickets were too high and we didn't go. I wanted to have a vacation and started to look at DCL cruises. My DH said at first...oh, that's for kids, I don't wanna go....let me tell you, after our first cruise last year on Magic, he is hooked and he was the one who convinced me to book this cruise to Hawaii while on of Magic.

Congrats on 43 years...we still have ways to go...we are celebrating our 9th anniversary on April 29th.....we started late, we are almost 46 and 47 and our kids are almost 7 and 8. :)

Congrats on 9 years! :bride::groom: We started young--we were 20--but waited 7 years to start a family as we were finishing college and getting started on jobs.

DH did not want to cruise the first time either.
When we got back from a Land-and-Sea package in 1999 he said he enjoyed it a lot more than he expected. I asked him why we booked it if he did not think he would like it and he said "because I knew you wanted to go."
Now THAT is ROMANTIC!! :lovestruc:love:

After 33 years with his company and only 5 years away from early retirement with no penalty my dh was let go from his job ...."downsizing"....:sad2:

Thankfully they offered him a 2 year severance package with full pay, benefits and 50% off all services (he worked for a cable/cell phone company)

We thought about whether we should continue on to do the trip... but only for a second... Since it is paid for and all planned, we will go ahead with it as scheduled.

The entire thing is unnerving... never thought this would happen......and I think I am still in shock.:scared1:

:sad1: So sorry

It is so rare these days to find someone who works at the same place their whole career any more like my Dad did. :sad2:

(I know it is a shock but that is the best severance package I have ever heard of.)

Best wishes in the job hunt. :thumbsup2

:grouphug: I hate when I hear that happen.....but it sounds like he has a fairly good severance package.......doesn't make you feel much better right now though.

Lots of prayers that yo can release all the stress to enjoy your cruise and can work everything out employment wise when you get home!

Thanks everyone....

I think the trip will be perfect to take our mind off things for a bit... My dh
is turning 50 in July and started at the company when he was 17 years old. He never finished high school and most of the jobs in the field now ask for college etc..

We are looking at him taking the severance for the 2 years, then one year of Unemployment - he would get the maximum (just under $2000 per months) and then take a hit of 6% on his early retirement pension.

I think he is hoping to work part time to pass the time.... I am going to make sure he has a Honey Do list ;)

So how many people are buying tickets for tonight's drawing ? :cool1: I don't play the lottery but I am buying some tickets. Can't win if you don't play. ;) There are some very nice private Islands in the Bahamas for sale. :rotfl2:

We did! :cool1:

I tried to get my son, who lives in Mountain View,CA to buy some tickets, but he won't! He said " I have more chance to get hit by lightning driving my car than to win the lottery" But I said " yeah, but you can't have ANY chance until you buy a ticket!". He thinks I'm not too bright.

Ha! He will be sorry if the winning ticket is sold where he WOULD have stopped and bought it for you. :rolleyes1

My DH is in charge too. I am so delighted that he likes to cruise on Disney and takes me with him that I don't care where we go. I post on DIS and get info but he makes the decisions. Does that make me his "arm candy" or "trophy wife" ? :rotfl::lmao::laughing::rotfl2:

63 years old and married 43 years to the same guy! Not too shabby and great to hear him call me a "cute chick" :lovestruc:love:

. Jan & Tom
Kana & Koma
. . :earsgirl::earsboy: . .

 You are for sure his tropy wife!!

45 for us this year. We started young, 17 for me 22 for him. :lovestruc

So sorry. :grouphug: Good severance package though and surely he can work out something with 2 years. Just try to relax and really enjoy the cruise and use it for a time of healing not trying to plan. Enough of that when you get home. :grouphug:

Sounds like a good plan! I retired at 58 and took a hit of 5% per year for 3 years on my retirement and do not regret it at all! I love every minute of being with Dennis 24/7. And now, 4 years later I am now eligible for my social security so a raise for us this year. :yay: :dance3:

Just remember when one door closes another one opens. Take some time to accept the fact and them move on. Hawaii will be a great diversion for a couple of weeks. When you get back, your full time "Job" will be to update your resume and find another place to work. If anything comes up in the next two years, it is a big bonus. Don't get down on yourself.

I'm very sorry to hear that. It is scary but hopefully this vacation will give you a bit of a break and you never know what will be waiting when you get back.

First off :hug: to you both. You *will* be in shock for a while - and so will he, although it may be delayed.

YES! You should continue the trip. You need it right now, more than ever. He's got a good severence for this day and age.

The most immediate things he needs to do are check health insurance and get all the details on his future pension and any other funds that may be coming to him. I have been a career development coach and recruiter in my past life (among other things) - if he or you have any questions I can help with, feel free to pm.

On second thought - as Canadians, you may not need to worry about insurance, because, unlike we Americans, you have national health. But, it's best to check on those sorts of things anyway - there may be life insurance, etc as well.

WOW - what a shock. We all are one phone call away from the same announcement...someone already posted about the need to check insurance etc. and the essentials.

That is well stated.

Then, with the cruise paid for (and a bit extra attention to the extras that can add to a ships tab) it is time to take care of yourself...Enjoy, plan and Celebrate......

We'll see ya real soon.

We are doing the tour, can't remember if it is the 1:00 or 1:30 tour. val

Val -- the DH just bought three, yes 3..that is 3 Hawaiian shirts a month before the trip...why? They were on clearance, they are for work, they are a good price. etc etc.

Geez...have I suggested that we really don't want our hubbys to meet up?

:confused3 I haven't been here awhile and I just noticed that our sign up is missing from the candy swap fish extender and from the scavenger hunt. Who do I reach out to? :guilty: I know I am not here often, I just can't, I wish I could. I bit overwhelmed, husband had a heart attack three weeks ago and we have been a bit overwhelmed with all kinds of health test and evaluations. Can someone please help, thanks!!!!!!
