since I never been on a Disney Cruise before, I need to ask you experts. Would this be considered to casual for semi-formal night for my DD who will be 8? [/url]

I agree with Mark. You could pull that off for formal night.

We are NOT formal people. No tuxes, no formal gowns.

Believe it or not...this is my formal dress:

Hey, finally caught up to my post and it's a U TOP!

Hi,

DD13 was told she could get a phone for 6th grade graduation in June. In May of that year she rec'd a math honor's award from the district so I surprised her after the ceremony.

I wanted her to have a cell phone in jr. high. She was also on a tournament soccer team that practiced twice a week and I couldn't always stay at practice.

My dd11 could use one as she has 2 -3 soccer practices a week, but she'll get the phone next year at graduation or for math honors if she earns it.

I like the idea of getting him one for 5th grade graduation! :thumbsup2

have you ever been in the chat? I went there once when I first signed up here and they were talking about anything BUT the Disney cruises.

Hi,

I've been in there for my last cruise. A few of us went into a different room and had a good time.

I think we'll fly out of LAX unless there is a non-stop from Burbank. I hate to fly - I have to look into some sort of sedative to relax me. I'm not a good example for my kids.

I'm so tired that I thought this was from Kay---

Hi Karen.

Paul wore a tux because he has one. He has a dinner once a year that he has to wear a tux to so he just bought one.

I haven't even thought about formal night yet! I know my DH won't wear a tux, I am going to have a hard time getting my DS to wear a tie, that's for sure! My DH would wear a suit, but again, I don't think DS will do even that. I'll be lucky if I can talk him into a dinner jacket and a tie! I may have to threaten to throw him overboard if he doesn't do as I say! :rotfl:

My ds likes to dress up on the cruise. He gets all dapper and his hair slicked up. He really looks like a little man. It's cute b/c here in bumpkin land we don't have a lot of opportunity to dress up like that (which works just fine for me b/c I HATE to get dressed up!!!)

ok great! It's hard finding formal dresses for her age anyway. She isn't old enough obviously for the ones you buy for high school or even middle school dances, and most of the formal dresses for her age are frilly and not her style!

I will probably wear something similar to you. Since my DH and DS aren't going to totally dress up, I don't want to feel out of place in my prom dress! :lmao: Yeah right...like THAT would still fit me!!

ETA: I like that a dress like that works for both formal and semi-formal night. I'd hate to lug around 2 different dresses. They take up SO much space!

My husband just took my daughter to the Verizon store because the music on her new cell phone that she got for Christmas is not working. Hopefully the Chocolate phone is not a piece of junk.

Maybe I should have waited 2 years (?) for the iphone.

CHOCOLATE PHONE?

Oh, I could see the conversation in our house...

Mike: Hey, where's your phone?

Me: uh....I ate it! :lmao:

iPhone comes out in June. Had to ask dh....I knew dh would know b/c he's waiting for it with bated breath. :)

You did start this thread and you should be proud of it!! What a thread it has become.

I have shelves in my daughter's closet for my cruise collection. She's type A like me so she likes to organize everything.

No kidding, we will start to pack about 4 days before we leave. Sad, I know!

Of course, a month before I'll try on the clothes, cry, then go buy different ones! :)

Februrary exercise challenge not off to a good start. Feb 1st--0 minutes of exercise!

that's what I thought when my DS first brought it up. I had never even heard of it! Why the heck is it called that anyway? Not like it's even brown or anything! :rotfl2:

What's even more sad, my DD is in 2nd grade and 1/2 the class has a cellphone. So far, she hasn't asked for one though. *knock on wood* Good thing too since she won't be getting one until middle school either!

Dd is in 7th grade and is just now saying she wants a cell phone. In fact, her dad talked to her about a special surprise if she can finish out this school year working hard and have a great attitude about it.

She wanted a cell phone as the surprise.

Mike said "how about a Mac laptop?"

Ok, guess which one she wants!?!?!?!?

Btw, seeing as we homeschool and I drive her everywhere she needs to be (and wait there because it's always 30 minutes away) it's not like she NEEDS a cell phone. I'm WITH her 99% of the time (or at least in the same building).

Oh my, I'm quoting myself!

I am type A too, I have to have everything organized and planned out to a "T". However, when it comes to packing, I am the WORST!!! I always swear that next vacation, I will start packing at least 4 days before we leave but it NEVER happens! I always end up doing laundry the night before and then stay up ALL night, packing! Then, on the way to wherever we are going, I have this feeling like we forgot something really important! I *always* forget my pajamas! I always have to end up buying a pair when we are on vacation!

Just to clarify, I'm not type A. We have very detailed lists that we use for packing. Since we go to WDW a lot we have our WDW lists. And for the cruise we have cruise specific lists. We have a list for what needs to be packed from the bathroom. We also have a list for what gets packed in the "what-if" bag (antibiotics, otoscope, stethoscope, etc)

So it's not a matter of putting it off until the last minute, it's just that we don't need that much time to pack. :) If it's on the list, we need it, pack it. If it isn't on the list, don't even think of bringing it, because it's already been determined we will not need it. :)

Although, the lists aren't foolproof. I still remember the time we got to WDW for a 2 week trip and Mike opened the suitcase, looked around and said "OH &^@@#!" I was worried b/c he has glaucoma and I thought maybe he didn't bring his eye drops. Nope. He didn't pack any shorts. The ONLY shorts he had were the ones he was wearing. Luckily we were in a DVC villa and had access to a washer and dryer!!! Hey, I don't pack for him, he's a big boy!!! :)

Mike really believes that having a laptop is going to be crucial for college. He talks to college kids a good bit (some of his patients still come to the pediatrician on their breaks or if their college is close to the office) and they all say the laptop is KING on campus. I remember sitting and taking notes in a spiral notebook in college, but apparently now everyone hauls their laptops around.

So he figures she can get really good use out of it working independently for the next several year and get to really know it so she's ready for college.

*I* think he just likes to buy computers for fun! :) Right now both kids have laptops....they are each about 6 yrs old and have trouble running the most basic of programs! :)

Cool! Second U TOP in a row!

here, they suggest that your high school student gets a laptop. Hello?! Not everyone can afford one, esp when you have more than one kid in HS! I probably *will* give DS mine when I get a new one. Mine is a few years old, but it still works great. I hardly ever use it, mainly for when we travel so I can download the pictures! I set up wireless internet when we moved into this house because I thought I'd use it more often since it's a two story house, but I don't really!

wondering if we'll get any newbies posting here soon! :confused3 It seems strange that there are only so few of us!

Good morning everyone! You all were chatty again last night. You even got Mark involved while I was sleeping! :)

I think the dress is cute and would work for either formal or semi-formal night.

Jen - yes tonight is cruise chat but they still only have the one room open and my thinking is the repo cruisers are going to take it over. I liked it better where there were 3 different rooms because our group would take one of the others as well and not worry about dominating the coversation of others. Plus if there were chatters who didn't want to talk about cruising (just liked to log into chat) they had a place to go. So I'll be avoiding chat for a while.

Kay I'm sure over the next year or so we'll get more cruisers. Right now everyone is caught up in all the hype of the repo cruises and mexican cruises. Happens all the time. So I'm sure once that hype dies down we'll see some more. Plus new people find this site all the time and that is how we get new cruisers as well.

And, even if NO ONE ELSE finds us, we are going to have a ROCKING* GOOD time! :)

*Rocking does not imply there will be a lot of ship movement and sea sickness problems. :lmao:
