April 21, 2007 -- Western Magic -- anyone?

Wow, no packing done around here!! But, I have to say that over the past 2 years, we've taken three 4-day cruises, so all of our "cruise stuff" is in the same place, so it should be easy to pack all of that stuff. Plus, I have a DCL cruise packing list in Word to print out as it gets closer.

Since I'm in central FL, can't pack the summer clothes yet. I don't need them now, but we'll probably break out the shorts/tshirts in late March/early April, so I won't be able to pack them much before the cruise.

Welcome to all the new posters!!! This board is hopping!!

Wow!! Packed?!!! I thought I was excited and ahead of the game by reserving our excursions tonight. I have things organized in the closet, does that count?

Booked excursions -- Grand Cayman Island Tour on 4-24 at 11:30am
Tulum Ruins on 4-25

Checked for Palo ressies while I was booking and there are none to be found. Good thing I booked when we were allowed to for CC members. I do want to try to get Palo brunch ressies if available when we board.

This cold weather really stinks, 9 and 10 degree weather! I see a couple of people are lucky to be enjoying this fun too.

We just changed over our computers at work and I now have internet at my desk. (I work in a Drs office and we just had dummy terminals before) Its sooooooo hard to keep off of the DIS. I keep the site open all day. Every chance I get I check to see what is going on. This makes the cruise seem not too far away (only 2 mths).

Also wondering if anyone had any ideas on this:

Dh and I will be celebrating our 10th anniversary on this trip. When we got married we got him the normal gold band for his ring. I have upgraded my engagement ring (5 yrs ago) and recently (2wks ago) upgraded my wrap. Kay Jewerlers, where we bought the rings, has a great deal where you can trade in the diamonds and they give you credit to apply to an upgrade for your rings. We got a great deal.

Dh has been bugging for quite sometime to get his ring updated with diamonds in it. So, while he was elsewhere in the mall, I got him a new wedding band with diamonds in it. I should be getting it in a week or two (it had to be sized).

My problem....when and how should I give it to him? Its hard for me to keep my mouth shut about getting it in the first place. I want to give it to him on the cruise. I thought about giving it to him right before we sail away, but then I thought about giving it to him when we have our Palo ressies which would not be till Tues and I don't know if I can be quiet about it till then.

I don't think he has a clue!

Any suggestions from my fellow cruise mates?

Cyndi

Have you thought about getting a gift basket delivered to you room and then give it to him upon arriving in your stateroom?

Or, you could get the stateroom decorations from DCL that say Congratulations then give it to him then when you arrive, because it'll be all decorated?

Another idea is to give him a big box while you're packing that you say has something for the cruise in it that he might want to have before you leave. Then, you can have it in a smaller box inside.

Along those same lines, make up a little goodie box with cruise stuff in it for him, sunscreen, etc and have the box with the ring inside too.

How about a role reversal and placing it on his dessert?
How about taking a stuffed Mickey and putting the ring on a chain around Mickey's neck - Put it in a box and wrap it and give it to him at Palo's.
How about the night of the Magic Show? You can speak with the magician right before the show, and maybe the magician can call your husband up on stage and do a magic trick or something involving the ring..Like the magician can say, can I borrow your wedding ring for this trick, sir...and you husband can hand over his old ring, and then when the magician does his trick, he'll hand DH his NEW Ring...This way you can embarrass him ANd give him something special:laughing:

We have not started packing yet.....We'll probably start about a month before. I normally keep the suitcases out on the floor (in everyone's way!)
I also made up our own cruise packing list. I took a couple that were here on the DIS and narrowed them down to what we'll need. DH thought I was such a big pain in the neck - he's the one that had to read every list to me while making the new one!

Cyndi - Personally, I'd wait until Palo. Since it will already be a couple of special hours, I think that would be a great time. Believe me, you CAN keep a secret if you try hard enough. :rotfl2:

Oh no, I'm not packed. I just put a few things in our suitcase as I find them. DH just thought I was packing. It's still a bit early for that just yet. I've found if I keep travel stuff in the suitcase then organize it later, it's just so much easier. That way I'm not running around like crazy looking for small stuff.

I still don't have airfare yet. :rolleyes1 The sales I keep seeing for the next month are soooo much cheaper, so I'm hoping in March to find a better deal. It may come back to bite me, but for now, I'm being stubborn and waiting it out.

So, tell me about your excursions~
DH & I were reading our Passporter, and looking online last night. The only things we have booked are at Castaway Cay. I'd like something for the whole family to enjoy. Anyone booked something great?

cyndi -- that is so fantastic!! how cool!! is he more intimate or would in front of a crowd be a good thing? i'm a romantic, i'd say Palo. I'd even try to sneak up earlier in the day and find a mgr or your server and plan something. Maybe the server could bring a 'speciality' dish just for him with the ring under a dome? i'm not very creative, you can hold out---- you've held out THIS long! serenity beach would be cool too but that's friday!

excursions -- my DH and DDs have royal dolphin swims through dolphin discovery booked at Cozumel. We don't have anything officially planned at KW or GC. just some on our own sightseeing. at CC we all have parasailing on the 2:30 boat

been thinking about cleaning up my guest room so i can start laying out some dinner outfits. i'm still randomly tossing cruise items in an open suitcase in there. nothing much though. DVC you are truly packed! WOWSER!! i went to WDW in jan and left out some shirts, etc near my suitcase does that count?

this is my first time posting here. The funny thing is I am also from NH, boy is it cold here, I am also flying out of Manchester but late Tue night on SW too. Boy, I found those flights out of Manchester went real fast this year, I guess alot of people can't wait to get out of this cold.

I also have a DS 13 he too wants to do some teen stuff and is hoping to find someone to play basketball with, any of your teenagers play?

I also have a 3 yr old DS who I'm hoping will love the kids program and to help this along I was thinking I would see if it is possible to meet up with other families with 3/4yr olds that would be in the club with him so he would know someone there, anyone interested in doing this?

Thanks

Welcome to the group!!! We have a DD that will be turning 3 on the day that we get off the ship, and we're hoping that she'll be in the club too. So, maybe we can get them together early in the cruise or maybe at the port (we usually arrive as early as possible). Madison is a real charmer, very outgoing, always interested in playing with other kids.

Welcome ctc917!!!!

Thanks to everyone for their wonderful ideas--its sooo hard to choose what I'll do.

It's still freezing here in PA! I can't wait till April and relaxing on the Magic!

Anyone else thinking about it 24/7? I just can't stop!!

oh yes i'm thinking of it ALL the time!! i did clear out my packing area so i can get more serious about laying out clothing and what i need. did someone say that had an excel packing list? i would like that please? if whoever has it got the spreadsheet i sent, my email is on there.

:welcome: ctc and anyone else newly joining our gang!!

newbies -- i have an excel spreadsheet with our DIS board families listed, if you'd like to be included PM me the following info:

username, family (real names and kids ages), home state, friday night accomodations, transporation to port, dining time and stateroom/deck. Also include your email so I can email you the spreadsheet but let me know if you want me to keep your email address private, not a problem.

does anyone else read the menus and plan?? LOL i'll forget when i'm there but i'm a food network junkie so reading the menus is so up my ally

OK, it won't let me post a URL because I am new, but this is addressed in the FAQ on the main DCL board.

Right there with you on planning and Food network. Last time we cruised on the Wonder and I tried something I have never had before every day. Going to try that again this time.

:wave2: Yes, that would be me! :rotfl: Every freezing cold morning I open the door and head outside, I think "just a few more days". Especially the other morning when the thermometer said 6 degrees.

Every Friday as the work week ends, I think "one more closer to vacation...." I am going to be in such withdrawal after it's over. I'll need a support group or something. ;)

I also have been reading the menus. I am well known in my family for being picky. However, I am determined to atleast try something new. As for my tablemates, well, if I make a weird face at a new dish, please try not to laugh too hard. I apologize in advance. :rotfl2: I figure vacation is the best time to try new things though - since I don't have to shop for the ingredients, cook it, then clean up the kitchen!

And, the great part is that if you don't like it, you can just order something else!!! That's what I LOVE about cruising!!!

I am a Food network junkie too. I love watching it. I have at least 5 or so of Rachael Ray's cookbooks. In Jan my DH, DM, & I went to NY to see a taping of her talk show. It was great!

Food is Good. :thumbsup2 Food and wine better.:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Good food, good wine on a Disney Cruise, let's celebrate :banana::banana:

I have sample menus printed out as well. We love the ability to sample many different things. My family likes exotic foods except for my DS-7 who likes pizza, Mac & Cheese, pasta and all fruits. He is not very adventurous when it comes to food; however he floored us on our last cruise by trying all sorts of foods. (Once we got home it was back to the same old eating routine)

I've got to hit the gym every day. Got to hit the gym every day. Keep repeating it to myself so I do it. Last time I went the first day, all the treadmill, bikes etc were being used. I never went back the rest of the cruise.

Does anyone know how you schedule the wine or beer tour? Do you have to wait until you get on board?

Does anyone know what shows are scheduled for our cruise?
Are you talking about the shows in the WD Theater or movies? For the WD Theater, I'm sure that we'll be seeing Twice Charmed, Disney Dreams & Golden Mickeys. We've seen DD and GM, but not TC yet. The last time that we were on the Magic they still had Hercules.

As for movies, I'm hoping to find out when we get a little closer.

WD Theater, I have seen the Golden Mickeys. The shows are spectacular. I hear there is a comedian/magician one of the nights. My DS loves magicians. There is a restaurant near our house that on Thursdays and Saturdays has a magician come around to the tables. It is my DS favorite restaurant. (It is a seafood restaurant and he gets pasta, see post on previous page)
