Checking in! Solo trip, last minute 19-20. Still trying to find a safe close hotel room, let me know if you have any recomendations!

Lots of things to reply to on this thread!

It's all quite exciting! I have 41 days to go!
I think we will only get one fireworks night though, that being Sunday the 23rd
I'm anxiously awaiting for the entertainment schedule to be released/updated, just in case there will be fireworks all week of the 23rd.

fingers crossed

As of today, the entertainment schedule is posted up to April 23rd and there are fireworks posted that night. Keep checking as they will be updating the calendar daily!

Jumping in! Getting excited for our 3-day trip (Apr 3-5), staying at GCH, getting 1-park per day tickets. Planning to do EMH/MM at DCA and then DL - and will let our kids (DS10, DD6, & DD 17mo) decide which park to do for our last day.

Got lunch reservations at Cafe Orleans and dinner at Carnation Cafe, but going to wing our meals for DCA - the food festival looks really amazing but I am not sure how kids will do, we'll probably do our old standby (Mexican and burgers)

Getting really excited!

Welcome to the thread, that sounds like a good plan. Staying at the GCH will allow one parent to take the littlest one back to the hotel for a nap if needed and also for quick changes if anyone gets wet on a water ride. When we stayed there a few trips ago we went on Grizzly River then went back to the room to change then back to the park to play some more.

Checking in
Our family of 5 arrive April 14-18
Any suggestions for a hotel with a great pool area, and a separate bedroom (snorer in the family)
Thanks!

Re: hotel.

Are you looking for something within a short walk? Is the pool area a must have? What is your price point?

Fingers crossed that the new FP machines are up and running when arrive (4/17-4/21) my family loves TSMM but the wait is always a bit of a bummer.

The best plan for riding TSMM with a shorter wait if you are not staying at a DLR hotel is to go to DCA at rope drop on a day that does not have early entry and head straight for TSMM then go and grab a RSR FP after that.

We've stayed at 3 different motels across the street from the DL entrance and while none of them have been fancy, all have been clean and close and safe. For a solo traveler, I would not pick Park Vue Inn for the sole reason that it is usually more expensive than other places but I can justify the extra $ if there are 4 of us because their breakfast is great. Right now, their best rate is $179/night. Desert Inn & Suites is sold out.

Let me do a bit of research and I'll get back to you!

They are still doing fireworks right? I just started to think about this today...

Fireworks are on the schedule up to April 23rd but not after that so far. They may add them as they fill out the calendar but that's it as of today.

Ok so even if they don't do them during the week, they still should on weekends right? I knew they'd stopped fantasmic so I was hoping that didn't mean fireworks went too.

I just saw our first day at the park pop up with shorter hours but not as short as I was thinking. Seems like it's still considered a busy time but my kids will be excited to get to stay up late.

I would be comfortable staying alone at any of the Harbor Blvd motels, anywhere from Hojo (1380 S Harbor Blvd) to Castle Inn (1734 S Harbor Blvd) are in my range of totally walkable.

Castle Inn would probably be my last choice just because it is far but they have a 2Q room for $159/night.
Grand Legacy is really new and pretty but they are having issues with their site right now so I can't get a price.
Del Sol, we've never stayed there but it seems basic and ok. Internet non-refundable rate of $159.75/night for 2Q.
Park Vue, $179/night for 2Q, includes decent, hot breakfast.
Best Western PPI, $209/night, 2Q room.
Tropicana, 2Q room, $149/night
Carousel, booking site not working.
Camelot, 2Q room, $159/night
Fairfield Inn, 1K, $149/night.
HoJo, 1K, $209/night

Paradise Pier is $352/night
DLH is $428/night
GCH is $489/night

I am assuming that when you said you are going April 19-20 that you meant staying both nights so that is what I have been looking for.

If you can extend one more night then you could take advantage of the Dapper Day rates. (minimum 3 night stay if you check in on the 19th) If you were staying April 19, 20 and 21st then the DLH would be $274/night and GCH would be $382/night.

Hope that helps!

Making a last-minute trip before my AP expires to celebrate my birthday! I'm going to arrive early the day after my birthday (April 12) and will get to enjoy the parks Wednesday-Saturday morning! My beloved Rangers are in town to play the Angels, so I'll be able to get to see them play one day as well! Then, I'll wake up Saturday morning and head up to meet with my husband in Santa Monica for the rest of the weekend before going home.

Looking forward to experiencing DCA Food & Wine Festival - F&W at WDW is one of my most-favorite times of year, dating all the way back to the late 90's! Hopefully the Easter Egg Hunt will be going on as well! Will be missing out on my favorite dining experience this time around - Chef's Counter at Napa Rose - because I'm not sure I want to go alone. Still deciding if I'm going to make any ADRs or just enjoy quick service.

Yay for Disneyland trips!!

Thanks! Yes, Edmonton :)

Ideally would like s nice pool area for the kids; a larger suite would be good since we will bring air mattresses and under $250/night :)

It looks like Grand Legacy at the Park might be your best bet. They have a connecting suite 3 rooms pre pay rate at around $250USD.

"Connecting Suite Three Rooms - Located in new front tower. Features three bedrooms with two queen beds in each connecting room and two bathrooms. Non-smoking room with complimentary Wi-Fi, and Snack Bag. Rooms features modern, high-end furniture and decor, with granite countertops in bathroom. Each room also includes mini refrigerator, microwave, tea and coffee maker, flat screen TV with HDTV and expanded channel listing, Tarocco toiletries, hair dryer, and iron. Roll-away beds and cribs are available at no extra charge, based upon availability. *Our new building is the place to be for the most luxurious rooms, many of which also include an unparalleled view of the Disneyland® Resort fireworks. Due to the close proximity of these rooms to our lively new bar and lounge, The FIFTH, any room located in the new building (which includes suites, luxury, and luxury view rooms) are subject to additional noise from events hosted by The FIFTH. To ensure that our guests are able to get a rejuvenating night’s rest, most nights these events are wrapping up before too late (11pm or earlier). On weekends, the entertainment does tend to go a bit later, ending the party before the stroke of midnight (much like Cinderella)! It is our intention that you have the most magical experience during your vacation, so we like to give a head’s up for any guests that may have a sensitivity to noise. Please come join the excitement at Grand Legacy At The Park and The FIFTH!"

Grand Legacy Hotel

Candy Cane Inn is also walkable (plus they have a dedicated shuttle to and from the parks). They are on the same side of Harbor as the DLR. They are showing a rate for a standard room 2Q of $146/night (they have AAA and other promo rates...-$10/night). They also have an expanded continental breakfast, free parking and good customer service.

Hi April people! Only 37 more days to go, for us!!

I’m getting so excited for our upcoming trip so I thought I’d share a little of the awesome itinerary I have planned for my daughter’s birthday trip. :bday: We’re going to do all of the fun adult stuff that I don’t normally do when I take my granddaughter! We’ll definitely be missing the train, Fantasmic!, and both of the boats – we love the ROA area. I can’t wait until it’s all open again, and I’m curious to see what Fantasmic! looks like after the refurb, as well as what they’ll offer for reserved seating. We loved the original dessert party they used to offer. The dining packages were okay, but I really liked having a chair.

My daughter and I are both working on Wednesday the 19th, then I’ll take a shuttle down to the airport in San Francisco to meet her for our flight. She lives in SF so she’ll just BART over to the airport, and we’ll be airborne by 5pm. I ordered a car from Lansky to pick us up. It’s a nice little luxury I like to splurge on every once in a while, and we should be pulling up to the GCH by 6:45pm or so. We’ll check in, freshen up, probably grab a nice, refreshing adult beverage from the Hearthside Lounge and hang out in the hotel for a bit. Then we’ll wander over to DCA and have a bite to eat. I’m thinking we’ll just pop by Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta or somewhere on the Pier, but if Cove Bar is still open, we’ll try for that. We don’t have much of an itinerary on arrival day since we’re getting in late. We’re just going to soak up the Disney and get in the happy zone, and maybe try to catch the fireworks that night. Or maybe go to Trader Sam’s! We’ll need a good night’s sleep because… we’re off to DL at 7am on Thursday! Hooray!

I tend to build my itinerary very loosely around my minimum-one-per-day TS reservation, and on Thursday the 20th we’re having lunch at Carthay Circle at 1pm, followed by WoC Dessert Party at 9pm – so we’ll go easy on breakfast and snacks but beignets are always a possibility! We’ll probably hit Star Tours early, then do some Fantasyland and pull FPs for Space Mountain or Star Tours again. Then we’ll wing it, probably taking in a show at the Royal Theater, and watching Soundsational at 4:30pm. There will definitely be a hotel break everyday too, and at least one spin on HM and Pirates every day, and as many FPs and other rides as we can fit in. I like to try to ride all of the rides at least once per trip, which is why we usually go for 4 or more days. :)

On Friday the 21st we get to sleep in a bit because EMH at DCA isn’t until 8am. Hah! You think I’m kidding? I normally get up by 4am for work, so I really will feel like I’m sleeping in! Our dining ressie this day is Blue Bayou at 6:30pm, and I don’t know if we’ll get the early or late parade viewing but it doesn’t matter to us – we’ll be happy with either. We love BB and we’d eat there anyway, so the parade viewing is just a bonus. I don’t think it’s worth eating there just for the viewing, since it’s a bit of curb and mostly standing. Our faves in this park are Soarin’ and RSR (and used to be ToT :sad::sad:) so we’ll go standby if the lines are short – I won’t wait more than 20 minutes (no patience!) :furious: – or we’ll pull FPs. On this day, we’ll also probably try to catch whichever show we didn’t see yesterday at the Royal Theater. I just love these shows – they’re so well done and humorous. Mr. Smythe and Mr. Jones are just great! I love watching all of the littles sitting on the carpet circles – I’m really going to be missing my granddaughter when we watch these shows. Also this day, we’ll definitely be watching another favorite – Mickey and the Magical Map! Every time Stitch comes out, I feel like I’m 6 years old – I get a big old grin on my face and nearly cry – it makes me so happy. :lovestruc As always, you’ve gotta have a backup fireworks plan, so if we didn’t see them on Wednesday, we’ll try for this night.

On Saturday the 22nd we’re up early again for DL at 7am. We’re going to the perfume shop in New Orleans Square and treat ourselves to something heavenly-smelling, because this night, we’re getting dressed up and going to the Napa Rose at 7pm. This will be my daughter’s official birthday dinner. :cake: She has never eaten there. I have, once, and it was wonderful! I can’t wait to take her there! I also want to start a Pandora bracelet for my granddaughter, so we’ll visit the Pandora store. I already have the Disney Parks Pandora bracelet for her, so I need to start choosing beads. No other plans this day except backup fireworks plan, and rides, of course. Maybe Frozen if she wants to see that. She probably will – she LOVES Olaf. Who doesn’t? It’s also another backup fireworks day just in case Wednesday and Thursday didn’t happen – but this will be our last night! :guilty:

Sunday is our getaway day, but we’re still going to make the most of it. We’ll pack up, bell check our bags, and hit EMH at DCA at 7am. We'll go straight for Soarin’ or RSR, then pull FPs for one of those, and probably have a bite at Flo’s. We’ll hop over to DL for a last spin on HM and Pirates, our very faves, then make our way down to the Disneyland Hotel for the Premium Tea Party at noon. My daughter likes to take me to a wonderful, charming little tea room in San Francisco (Lovejoy’s in Noe Valley on Church St. if you’re ever in the area) so I’m treating her to this in return. We’ll take our time and enjoy the room and the experience. I love Steakhouse 55, especially for breakfast, but this time it’ll be tea and scones and sandwiches and sparkling wine! We’ll mosey back to the GCH through DTD and pick up treats for our loved ones at Marceline’s, then the wonderful Lansky driver will whisk us back to SNA. We’ll be back in San Francisco and back to reality by 5:30pm, but with plenty of memories to keep us until the next trip! :cloud9:

So that’s our plan! I'd love to hear everyone else's plans!

Yay for Disneyland trips!!

I can see how you might not be sure how you may feel about dining Chef's Counter as a party of one, if you are use to dining with friends or family. BUT....lol.... ;) if you really like CC, then go. There are others dining at the chef's counter too. It isn't like there's a sign over one's head saying a couple here, three over there......oh but OMG! Look only one here.
I'm finally doing chef's counter. Also for my birthday. And I have the nerve to dine as one. Lol :)

That's so true! Normally, I would've just booked it and wouldn't have a second thought ... but I've been three times in the past year, and this trip is a last-minute surprise from the husband and his thinking was either I could go by myself for my birthday, or he and I can do dinner at Carthay Circle this trip and go together in September. I know he likes it a bunch, so I'm leaning towards holding off to wait for him.

But now I'm thinking of calling and reserving it with the option to cancel ... the times I've done it, the second seating has never been full ...

So that’s our plan! I'd love to hear everyone else's plans!

Wow, you are WAY more organized than I am!

The only "plans" that I have are:

We leave at 8:30ish on Monday morning so we are all staying at my mother's place the night before since she lives much closer to the airport than we do. Our flight arrives at SNA just before 2:00 pm and since we are just doing carry-on bags we will grab a cab and head to the Disneyland Hotel with a (hopefully quick) stop at a Walmart or Target to grab a flat of water. Check in at the hotel and probably head right to one of the parks for a few rides. We'll have to stop at City Hall or the Chamber of Commerce to get DS's DAS renewed and then it's off to have fun!

Tuesday is EMH at DL at 7:00 am...not sure if we will make it for that but I'm game to try! :)

Wednesday is EMH at DCA at 8:00 am and I am sure we can do that! This is also the day that I had booked for the Aladdin's Oasis OTG lunch at 12:15 so we can watch the first show of MSEP followed by the fireworks. This gives us Thursday and Friday in case the fireworks are cancelled Wednesday.

Thursday is EMH at DL at 7:00 am again, same plans for this as Tuesday but we also have dinner at Napa Rose at 6:00 pm. We should be finished in plenty of time to try the fireworks if they were canceled the previous night.

Friday is EMH at DCA again at 8:00 and same plan for this as Wednesday.

Saturday is our departure day and I have booked us for breakfast at SH55 at 7:50 am. We'll get up, shower, get dressed and pack the last few items before heading for breakfast and then sadly check out and get to the airport for our 11:30 am flight home.

This is our 10th DL trip so other than HSM, there are no attractions that we absolutely have to do or our trip is ruined. My favourite one was TOT but that is sadly not possible anymore. DS and DH love Screamin' but after 3 times, I have decided I just do not like it at all so will skip that and let them go by themselves!

Most of you are way more into planning than I am (I shouldn't say that, I love planning), but for DL just plan which day for which park and book a couple dining spots.
We just wander.......and take our time. Lots of down time.
I am going 5 times in the next year, so no need to rush.

That's why I put plans in quotation marks!

I've made a handful of dining reservations and have looked up which park has EMH so I know where to head first. Other than that, nothing! :D

Oh, and we are DEFINITELY going to Plaza Inn for fried chicken at least once, that is always in my plans!

We go often enough that we rarely plan our days, except for a reservation here or there. This time we have one reservation for one of our meals each day. The other meals we will just do counter service.
