I need help with some b-days ideas for my two DS for next april 12-18 when we are at US/IOA. They'll be turning 8 and 11 and having a difficult time with this and really want to make it special being it's our 1st trip to universal too. :wizard:

I'm thinking about doing the character breakfast and wondered if anyone has done this and what if anything is done special for birthdays?
Does anyone have ideas on what I can do for both boys for their b-days while there? party:

Is there anything cool that might be going on at the parks during that time?

TIA

Julie

The Spiderman character breakfast at Confisco Grille is great. I don't know if they do anything special for birthdays (nobody had one while we were there), but it wouldn't hurt to call and ask.

Confisco is a smaller scale restaurant, so the down side of that is the buffet isn't huge. They cover the breakfast basics, just don't expect everything plus the kitchen sink. The plus side of the smaller setting is that you can see the characters almost all the time you are there... and get to spend as much time with each one of them as you want. Spiderman, Cat in the Hat, and Thing 1 & Thing 2 were there for our breakfast.

There are other character meals at the hotels, I think. I didn't stay onsite, so somebody else would know more about that than I would.

Hope you get some good suggestions! :goodvibes

Thxs Tricia for the info on the breakfast. That relieves me being the boys can hopefully have a special experience with characters if the breakfast since it's a smaller setting.

I'm straying off topic but you said this was your first visit? Since you're going at a very busy time I hope you're staying on-site (or buying passes) so you can take advantage of the express privileges. It will make a huge difference in how much fun they'll have this time of the year in my opinion (that you didn't ask for).

I hope to be staying onsite, trying to convince my DH is another matter at this point. Hopefully when US loads the pricing for 2008 I can convince him better

I'm not sure if the parks do anything special (that would be a Guest Services question), but if you stay onsite and mention "birthday", they will usually send something up. Another DISer went for her DD birthday and stayed at Hard Rock. They were sent up popcorn, candy, soda (I think) and compliementary movie(s). Read post #73 for her picture. ----> http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1441798&page=5

If you stay at PB definately tell them. We were there for my birthday in June and I got a chocolate cheesecake sent up. I also got a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. My son got a spiderman gift basket and we all got breakfast vouchers for Trattoria.

We went during the week of our daughters b'day and I mentioned it at the desk when we checked in. The day of her b'day we took her to the Sleeping Beauty tea party (I forgot what they call it) and when we returned there were balloons and an autograph picture (real) of Cinderella. She was thrilled! That night we ate at Mickey's something at the Contemporary resort and Chip and Dale brought out a cupcake and everyone sung Happy B'day. Disney made her B'day very special!!

While a very special gesture by Disney, I don't think it would work for the OP....they are going to Universal ;)

WOO Hoo! Universal:banana: Bubba's Mom thanks for tip and thread that is awesome on the birthday idea. Do you think I have to show something with the boys b-day date or just mention it when I make my ressies?

Ok I think I might have my strategy for this tell me what you think.
We'll be going April 12-18, so If i break the stays up I can afford to stay onsite for a couple days and get the birthdays and FOTL perks too. I really want to stay at RPR even if it's for a day or two.

Sooo April 12-15 stay offsite at Hawthorn Suites or Extended Stay deluxe
April 16-18 stay at RPR

You think it sounds do able / sane? :scratchin

I do not believe they "ask" for proof...remember, it's a nice 'gesture' they like to do, it's not something you are "entitled" to ;) One of my mottos is: hope for the best, expect the worst (or in this case, expect nothing).

I think your plan sounds good...staying onsite on the weekends is better because you will need your FOTL because it will be busier. The only downside I see is staying offsite after you've been spoiled with the FOTL. Remember to check in first thing in the morning because you can get your roomkey and use it that day and until closing on your checkout day. You sound like you're off to a great start with plenty of research :thumbsup2

Thanks for all the great tips everyone, but the bad luck bug struck.

I just called RPR to get rates for my stay in April 16-18, '08 and all the hotels are SOLD OUT! AHHHHH :scared1: The receptionist was very kind and looked at other dates and hotels, and nothing is available. . . . Any ideas anyone. . .
i could flex my dates to Presidents week in Feb

I can't see the entire resort full for then. Even in June, it was almost full. Did she tell you why? Maybe a convention or something? Either that, or rooms aren't in the system yet.

I actually did ask Teresa the reservationist at RPR if a convention or spring breaks was going on and she said she didn't know. I know Grad '08 thing is the following week, but still. . . I hadn't thought about the rooms not being in the system yet? Just seemed odd that all the resorts were sold out,I know another diser is having the same problem for Jan too on the hotel threads. :confused3

Don't count on all the resorts being sold out....especially April....
