April 18, 2010 - 4 night Wonder

Hi everyone! Count my family and I in for this cruise! My DH actually won a 4 day cruise from a sweepstakes sponsored by EA Fitness. We're in a cat 9. We are flying down early and staying 3 nights at AS Movies. We're really excited! :cool1:

Welcome Aboard!! As Andy said, so far we are a pretty little group. I have a sneaky hunch that there may be more DISers on this cruise than those that have stopped by this thread. The week we're sailing is school vacation week in every New England state, except New Hampshire. We've cruised during this school break a few times, and there are usually a LOT of folks from New England.

Andy..... no countdown counter? Are you breaking your toys again?!? :rolleyes1

LOL!!! I think the MickeyPath website is down, that's the site I used for my countdown clicker......;)

Just finished getting our rental cars reserved, next step will be to pay the balance of the cruise!!! :thumbsup2

You're ahead of me. I have hotel reservations for the night before and a couple of nights after the cruise, but that's it. I probably should do the rental car, but I'm not paying off the cruise until I absolutely have to!

That's one advantage of having a vacation home 90 minutes from Port Canaveral, no motel reservations needed, unless we want to stay closer to the port. This time we are staying at our place in Lake County before and after the cruise for a few days. We have family in the Lake County area, so we will get to visit with them while we are there!!!

We used to own a home (that we inherited) on the other side of the state in Port Charlotte. We decided not to keep it, and sold it about 3 years ago, thankfully before the real estate market crashed in Florida.

I arrived home for lunch a few minutes ago. As I sit down in my chair my DW told me that our DD wanted to know if we were going to stay at the Radisson the night before the cruise like we have for most of our previous cruises.

As you might have guessed, I just finished booking us a 2 room whirpool suite(government discount rate) at the Radisson for Saturday night 4/17. I'm such a softy for my girls. OK, this is a special trip for me as well, so why not splurge a little, LOL!!! :lmao:

It's actually the week after April vacation for my Connecticut town. My kids have off April 12-16th. Because we won a cat 9 for our cruise we had to book a week that had Cat 9's available and wasn't a blackout date. The April 11th cruise was blacked out I think. We would have preferred that since now we have to pull the kiddos out of school for 4 days but oh well, a free cruise is a free cruise! Plus we're doing the 3 nights at an all star beforehand and that will be during the kids week off! Have any of you cruised in April before? Our last cruise was at the end of May, I've been to the Bahamas in April before for my Honeymoon, it was a little bit chilly some days but generally good weather. So we'll actually be on the cruise for our Anniversary. :lovestruc I'm hoping to get Palo that day!

We haven't cruised in April before, but we did a 7 day cruise the week of May 13 in 2006. The weather was absolutely beautiful although the water was still a bit chilly.

That would be great if you could get a Palo ressie for your anniversary. This will be our DD's first cruise over the age of 18, she is so looking forward to going to Serenity Bay and Palo on this cruise. Our DD said her boyfriend is really getting excited about the cruise, this is his very cruise of anykind.

My DW called the Radisson last evening and got the four of us on the first shuttle (10am) heading to the port!!! :thumbsup2

A little "Blast from the Past" the pic below was taken of my wife and I, 34 years ago today.

:love::lovestruc:love: Happy 34th Anniversary Sweetie!!! :love::lovestruc:love:

We've cruised a few times in mid-April and the weather is usually very nice, not nearly as hot as a month later. The water at CC has always been a little cool, but not unbearable.

We'll be just up the street at the Residence Inn (a freebie night - booked on points).

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to you and Hazel!!! :lovestruc

I do hope you remembered to get her flowers and something nice. Thirty four years is a long time! Congratulations.

Thanks Ed!!! Hazel and I are going out to dinner later, either Applebee's or Red Lobster, haven't decided yet for sure, especially since we just had Shrimp Scampi last night for dinner.

I went and got my flu shot this morning(8:30am). I was gone and back home before Hazel even knew I had left the house, LOL!!! It was supposed to be a drive thru clinic, but because of the bad weather it was moved indoors. I'm glad I didn't drive over in my PJ's, LOL!!! :lmao: I got there about 30 minutes before the scheduled start time and there were already hundreds of people in line ahead of me, luckily, the line moved very fast and I was out the door by 9:15 and back home by 9:30.

Andy, I just remembered something about the Radisson...... we stayed there the night before our first April Wonder cruise. They usually hold the prom for the local high school there that Saturday night. Even though we were in a newer building, and faced the parking lot (not the pool area) there were still quite a few prom goers wandering around making noise (around midnight - 1:00am), especially on the walkway above us (we were on the first floor). I do know that the last time we were going on the Wonder in April, I called them and confirmed that the prom would be there that night, and we stayed somewhere else (I think we decided to fly in later and stayed at the MCO Hyatt). The manager assured me that they do their best to keep things quiet, but they're not always successful.

Just my $.02 worth, but if the prom is that night, I would suggest checking in early and doing your best to make sure you are in a quiet location.

Thanks for the tip Ed!!! When Hazel and I stayed there last September, we had a rowdy bunch in our area. We were on the first floor right across from the pool. We found out they were all sailing on Royal Caribbean, what a relief for us, LOL!!! We will be arriving in Orlando around 2pm and will head straight to the Radisson to check-in!!! The last time we had a 2 room suite, we were up on the 3rd floor.

This is a bittersweet day for us, we were supposed to be sailing on the Magic today. Right now we would be in Parrot Cay having our Embarkation Lunch.

Just booked the Dream for 4/17/11. Anyone want to do a "reunion" cruise?

Ed

I'm "thinking" about booking one of the 5 night DD CC cruises in 2011, just haven't made up my mind yet..........:lmao:

We wanted to do that as well, but none of the dates work for us. DS will be in school up until close to the end of June, then his summer job at a local day camp usually starts the Monday after school is out.

I might book one for my wife and I right now to get the best price, then wait and see what happens with the  "Love Birds!!!" :rotfl:

Good idea!! Just make sure they don't make any wedding plans for the date you book (unless they want to get married on the Dream). :)

When I booked this morning, the prices (other than the inaugural cruise) weren't bad.

I just got off the phone with DCL a few minutes ago. I was able to book my DW and I a cat. 10A on the 8/16/11 5 day DD CC Dream for $1652.34, I was able to select my second choice of cabin, as my first choice was already taken.
