April 17, 2011 on the Dream

Dennis that has a beautiful walkway that extended far out into the bay. Can I remember the name? No.

are you thinking of Mayflower Beach?[/QUOTE]

Hi,
I was thinking of Mayflower also, as well as Corporation. Have to get there EARLY to get in. On the ocean side, West Dennis beach is a popular spot. We spend time at the Cape every summer...have since I was little, in the Harwich/Dennis area.
Can't wait for the Cape this year after the winter we've had! :thumbsup2

Just hiad a bad dream that DH was mauled by huge black lab so off to the DiS to get my mind somewhere else.

Thanks Pershing and goofy4tink and everyone for input. :goodvibes. I am saving all the notes on where to go in the cape. Problem is that DD wants to now go to Ocean City NJ (not MD, thank g-d!) so for the same driving time, we get a dry town with a boardwalk (no drunk people cruising the boardwalk at night, much safer) so for better, for worse I think we are heading there...:confused3

PS - any Jersey girls in the house??

We went to OC, MD last summer and it was a few years since we've been there. Although the beach is clean and beautiful, it was such a turnoff going to the boardwalk at night -- LOTS of drunk people everywhere. I was sooooo happy we didn't stay on the boardwalk. We didn't bother going back at night again.

That's exactly why we're not going back there also. We did not enjoy ourselves at ALL, the last time, but Ocean City NJ is supposed to be awesome so off we go.....

I am a Jersey girl and proud of it...just live in Maryland now. You can take the girl out of Jersey but not the Jersey out of the girl. You should see my driving! I don't go to Ocean City, MD but I have been to Ocean City, NJ many times! We rented a house with my in-laws a few years ago. It was a couple of blocks off the boardwalk. It was nice to have the boardwalk and the rides for nightime entertainment. Very easy to walk to and was fun! The beach stinks - they have a hard time keeping the sand on the beach and it can be really narrow at parts. We go to the Outer Banks, NC most summers and Ocean City was hard for me to get use to. In the Outer Banks we stay in Duck, and most of the homes are in communities and the beaches aren't overflowing with people. I had a hard time getting use to the house being on a street with constant flow of cars and going to a public access for the beach. Probably would be different if you rented a condo on the beach - I guess. Still love Ocean City, NJ; though! Oh funny thing - when we rented the house it was around the 2nd week of June ( I wasn't working at the time) and it was Senior Week for the area high schools. There was a lot of partying going on - for a dry town and underage students!
Any questions let me know... my in-laws use to own a condo there and I grew up on the Jersey beaches!!

another jersey girl here!
haven't been to OC in years.
lavalette, lbi and cape may so we wind up at seaside and wildwood which for teenagers is interesting. great people watching.

interesting to read the reviews about crowds and lines.
we sailed the oasis in october, smoothest embarkation ever, even with 5000 passengers!
and on the ship never felt crowded. getting off in ports was easy, the boardwalk and central park always felt open.

Thank you for commenting on the Oasis. We have only sailed on Disney but I must confess to being hugely curious about the Oasis. I saw a special on it on the travel Chanel and it looked beautiful and HUGE!!! I have been tempted to book a cruise with them and probably will some day.

But for me, my family has had such beautiful, spectacular times on the Disney cruise line that I am frankly afraid to book with anyone else. The service is so perfect and we are creatures of habit! Plus I love all the Dis'ers and the fun of doing the FE exchange.

I was really interested in what you had to say and hopefully if I ever get to cruise with just my husband we will try it out! Wendy:thumbsup2

We have been to Ocean City, NJ before. We loved it! Its very family friendly. The rides were fun (we had young kids). The boardwalk and beach were great. Only thing I didnt love was our hotel was dated and very expensive :rolleyes1 But, it was clean and had a pool. The location was great. Enjoy it! I want to go back again sometime!

If anyone has a ressie at the DoubleTree Cocoa Beach and you are going to cancel it, please let me know - we're trying to get our friends in there with us, but they are booked except for the executive froo froo rooms :confused3
Thanks!!

:upsidedowJust wanted to say I'm about to burst waiting for this vacation!!! OMG!!!:upsidedow

It is really just around the corner and I have sooooo much to do! FE gifts- Haven't even started... No swimsuit... DD has no cover up... No beach shoes... Well, I have six more weekends left to get it all done! I think I'll start taking inventory tonight so I know exactly what to starting looking for.

I'm trying to decide if I am going to purchase the express passes for our one day at Universal Studios. We aren't doing IOA, just US. They are already $49.99 which means high crowds are expected. We're going the day we get off of the ship so my arrival time may very well be affected. We want to pretty much do it all excect Rip Ride Rocket. I almost feel like I should bite the bullet to ensure we're not stressed out that day. Any opinions? I haven't been to US since...1997! I may as well consider myself a newbie!!:)

What dates are they looking for?? I had to change my reservation...cancelled one, booked another...and had no issues. I'm seeing availability there for just Sat night as well as Fri/Sat nights before the cruise. Or are you looking for after the cruise??

I was just telling my husband last night that I can't wait for this vacation. But most importantly I can't wait till April and spring. This winter feels really long and depressing.

So much to do this weekend with FE gifts!!
TGIF!!
Debbie :goodvibes

I agree and this winter was not as bad as last year in Maryland, but I'm so ready for spring.

Debbie I do have a question for you about FE, You guys have two families in your cabin. Will you have one or two FE's outside you door?

Six weekends! Now that's a wake up call.

We got struck with both the flu and a 24 hour bug. I've almost missed 2 full weeks of work with the kids and myself getting sick.

Total bummer paywise. I gave up ressie's for Remy and Palo to absorb the cost. Still have my hot stone message app but that may have to go also.

I keep thinking it's better to get sick now than in April! But then I think of the schoolwork the kids have make up and cringe.

Anyone else get their GTY assigned? Nada for me still.

So sorry to hear you and your family have been so sick -- 2 weeks off for sickness would devastate my vacation time and I'd probably have to take several days off unpaid. Glad to hear you're better now. One of us usually ends up sick on vacation but here's hoping if it's coming around to us, we get it now rather that anywhere between 4/14 and 4/21.

As for the whole GTY thing -- it's very frustrating to see those 3 letters where our room number should be. Don't get why it's taking so long -- it's not like there are any empty cabins DCL needs to sell before we sail :confused3

I just shared this story on my other cruise meets thread and thought I might as well tell you all about it, too. It was prompted by a comment from a fellow cruiser who said:
Getting excited--every time I talk to my 3 year old grand daughter Sofia she talks about the ship==I don't think she has any idea how really big it is!

So, I wrote...

That's cute about your granddaughter. :goodvibes Honestly, I don't think any of us realize yet how big that new ship is! I was in awe of the Magic and Wonder... I'm sure I'll be totally blown away by the Dream!

Funny story... our first cruise was on the Magic during her inaugural year. We were so excited to see the ship as we approached the port! After going through the check-in process, we made our way toward the huge windows at the back of the terminal. As we approached, I was dismayed to see that a hotel was blocking our view of the ship. Yeah... ummm... that was the ship!!!!! :rotfl: I'm almost embarrassed to admit how long it took me to figure that out! :rotfl2: (It wasn't until I stepped out on the terminal's balcony and was able to see the whole length of the ship!)
:lmao:

I feel your pain with the 24 hour bug, I had it Thursday, oldest DS had it Friday, DD had it today, I have been spraying lysol on everything, in addition to washing sheets and throwing away toothbrushes!

At least it didn't stop me from going to Mohegan Sun in Ct last night to see Bon Jovi, one of the best nights I've spent recently with 3 very dear friends!!!

Next up the CRUISE!!!! I can hardly contain myself I'm so excited!!:banana::cool1::cool1:

I am so jealous!!!!! I told my DH the only man he could ever lose me to would be Jon Bon Jovi .

Hey all! We are still here. LOL! Just checked AGAIN, to see if we were assigned a cabin and we are still GTY! Maybe they will assign us the deluxe lifeboat accommodation!!!:rotfl2:

Now that my dd's choir's big fundraiser is over I going start on my FE gifts. Did start them but will assemble them.

Only 41 more days! :banana::cool1::banana::cool1:
