April 14, 2007 Eastern Cruise!

HI All,

I just scheduled this cruise for our family. This will be our 3rd 7-night cruise. I can't stay away! There will be myself, DH, and DD 11 and DD 7. We normally have cruised in February to get away from RI in the winter but due to other obligations I changed the 2/18 cruise to this one. It is going to be great. CAN'T WAIT! :wave2:

Welcome Triggs2? :wave2: :wave2:

Was any of those 3 cruises - Eastern ? By any chance?

If so, I'd love to ask a few dozen questions! :sunny:

Thank you for the welcome! Yes, it has all been Eastern cruises. It just seemed to fall that way. I love the cruise because of the extra days at sea. It makes the trip very relaxing! We have done excursions at St. Maartin and gone on our own to a beach on St. Thomas. This time, we will check out an excursion at St. Thomas.

As always, looking forward to my next cruise!

:welcome: I think a lot of people from New England look forward to getting away after a long winter.
We might leave from PVD if Jet Blue does not work out. It would be funny if a group of us ended up on the same flight.

Have you looked over the excursions at all yet? I'm pondering the St. Thomas ones, right now. I've been to St. Thomas before and didn't have a great impression of it, so I'm seriously considering going to St. John which I hear is gorgeous.

It's just that we have to do one or the other island and there's no chance to do both!!!
I have been reading up on excursions in my Passprorter's Disney Cruise book.
My MIL and Mother will also be going. My mother has been to St. Thomas so she was thinking about the St. John Island Tour (the book rated it a 9 out of 10) I am still thinking. My kids will too young to enjoy the Catamaran Sail and Snorkel. I know they would like a beach or some place they could go swimming.
Would love to hear what others might be doing or what they are considering.

Just purchased my tickets for the flight down. Got one way with Delta direct from BOS to MCO. Flights just opened up for the Friday before the cruise. With it being school vacation week I wasn't going to wait. The prices usually shot way up.

Do you really think people would be flying down that late in the week for their vacation? Oh well, you can always get a credit if the price drops! I'm gonna wait for Jetblue and Southwest.

I was able to borrow a passporter from my local library so I can read up on those excursions. Especially the St. John won.

Trigg2

Which Island is your fav.? Any hints or tips specific for the Eastern cruise?

Since that is our vacation week I know it will fill up. The Friday before we sail is the last day of school - so vacation will be starting. This past April I tried to book with Jet Blue and Southwest and they were already either full or at their highest price. This year did tie in with Easter but I know when I purchased for Feb. vacation I bought on Jet Blue the day they released the flights and the prices was already over $200 each way.
My flightone - way was $ 119.00 today the price is up to 229.00 for the same flight. Yes, it could go back down but I am glad I bought them.
Even when Jet Blue and SW release their schedules I don't think the prices will be much less than what I paid.
I really enjoyed reading the passporter. I am glad you were able to get one from you library. Let me know what you decide on for excursions.

Our favorite island is Castaway Cay. But, between St. Thomas and St. Maarten, I like St. Thomas. We have done the butterfly excursion on St. Maarten. Okay, wouldn't do it again. We have gone to the Pinel Island excursion on St. Maarten the next time for snorkeling. That was fun but once is enough. I have not done any excursions on St. Thomas. Always have taken the taxi to Magen Bay Beach. Fantastic Beach! Thinking about doing the excursion to St. John island this time around and no excursions at St. Maarten. Less than a year now. Wahoo. :teeth:

No Excursions at St. Maarten???????

As in stay on the boat......or........find a great beach?

If it's find a beach, we're there too! Being Cape Codders, my kids gravitate towards the beach like flies to honey. They would be miserable stuck on a tour if they could see a beach out the window.

I'll never forget the Western Cruise when they went into Caribbean water for the first time! They were walking braced for the frigid water like they were used to into the water.....and then the astonishment on their faces when they discovered it was like bath water!!!

SO it's St. John for us also!

:yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

Whose staying at the Port the night before, doing the WDW, or flying in the morning of (which I always think is too risky!), and whose staying at a MCO hotel?

We are doing Nickelodean probably Thurs, Fri, and driving to the Port Sat. Morning. My kids love to board early and swim before the pools get crowded.

Triggs2 you've done the butterfly thing. I've thought about it because we have a 4yr old. were somewhat limited on the shore excursions. Is it worth it ? Would appreciate any input. :grouphug:

Glad to see more Red Sox fans on board! When we went last year in April we saw a lot of Red Sox shorts and Hats. I will have my two DS's 7 and 5 with us. It should be a lot of fun.

Definitely hitting the beach at St. Maarten on our own. I highly recommend the Magen Bay Beach at St. Thomas. Just beautiful. The butterfly farm was okay. You expect this great place and it was a small enclosed area. We did see alot of butterflys but it was just okay.

I'm a couple towns further down in Orleans, although I won a housing lottery in Eastham :cheer2: so we will be moving into our brand new house this summer sometime.

I'm working lots of hours trying to prevent my cruise deposit from turning into a mortgage payment!!

Actually, I have to keep this vacation 'cause I just rented DVC points for 3 days at Beach Club Villas after the cruise. Paid in Full, so no going back!

I'm still bent on doing St. John, Triggs2! I've never been there before but I had a friend who grew up there and I've got to see if it's still the way she described it.

Now if Airfare would just drop drastically, everything would be great! :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

Just sitting here with my June calander trying to figure out how we are going to get through all the end of the school year activites and started to day dream about being on the magic with someone else doing all the cooking and cleaning and having nothing planned but another meal. Or maybe a massage. Or a martini tasting. Or a book to read by the pool. I hate to wish my life away but can not wait for this cruise!

Doesn't June just fly by while you hold on by the seat of your pants!

I mean, how many field trips can they cram into the month of June!!

My kids are so burned from MCAS that they're rebelling against doing their homework! :confused3 I don't blame them, I'm burned out on school too. It's not like when we were young. Now we got to practically do the homework with them. Sometimes I feel like I"M going through school again.

I've been escaping in a Magic daydream also. I just got Fodor's 2006 Book on the Caribbean out of the library and I've been reading that to my son for parental/child reading time. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I've been trying to read the Eastern Trip reports, but it's hit or miss on finding one with good details. Anyone find one they loved?

I was wondering if the cruise ship proves lifejackets for the kids pools or will I have to bring my own for my 6 year old DD? Also has anyone done the submarine tour on St. Thomas? Can't wait to go this will be our first Disney Cruise, glad to see so many others from New England will be on it.

The Mickey pool is only 18 inches deep no need for life jackets.
The Goofy pool is 48 inches deep. I am not sure if they provide lifejackets. If they have some they probably only have a few so if you really need one bring it along.
The Passporter's Guide Book to the Disney Cruise only give the submarine excursion on St Thomas a rating of 5 out of 10.
From the book "Cruiser reviews are mixed: Two people need to share a porthole to gaze out at the cloudy water with some sea life but nothing spectacular. Most cruiser enjoyed it but probably wouldn't do it again.
Adults $ 75.00 children 4-9 $50.00
