Hi we are second seating for dinner, worked fine for us last time, very relaxed and plenty of food! The only thing was we didn't realise there would be a FEAST on pirate night or we would have held back, also we didn't realise there were canape's earlier in the evening until the last night (of 3 nights). No problem with seeing shows/karaoke/bingo etc, somehow(can't remember how - it was 3 years ago) it just all fitted in fine.

DH 45!!

DS 10 1/2

We purposely picked second seating also, with a 10 1/2 yr old and a 13 1/2 year old. We did early seating on a Royal Car. cruise last summer and we didn't like having to get ready for dinner at 5/5:30pm. So we thought it would be nice to have second. I was just curious if I was the only one who wanted second seating.

We also have a late seating. Didn't request it ... just worked out that way. But on our other cruise, we did have the early one and it really cut into our afternoon time - gives you more free time if you aren't interested in seeing a show as well.

Wow I haven't been on here in a while! A lot going on!!!! Well my DH will not be happy to hear that we cannot bring alcohol on board:eek: He just finally believed me that we could:headache:

Omgoodness ... guys ... huge news for us ...

according to a post on the main boards ... WE CAN NO LONGER BRING ALCOHOL ON BOARD.

I'm not kidding and I hope I'm reading it wrong but the Coast Guard has mandated it as of today. No boxes can be pre-shipped and NO LIQUIDS whatsoever can be found in a soft cooler, luggage or carry-on or it will be confiscated.

Please someone else go read the thread and agree or disagree with what it appears to be saying.

Arghhh - this sucks! They could have waited a few months, eh?

I was totally stressed out today... I almost had to take a trip for work from April 7-9. I would have gotten back into town at 9:45 and we are leaving for the airport at 3pm.... Fortunately I was able to tell everyone that I had no problem doing that while still letting my boss talk me out of it, so everyone thinks I am still a team player even though I got what I wanted! <evil grin>

Whew - I feel like I dodged a bullet as I have no idea how I would have gotten it all together...

I was just checking DCL site and Palo Dinner reservations just opened up for days 1,4,5 and 7...
Too bad I really only want to go for Brunch :(

Has anyone received their cruise documents yet? I thought they said we should get them around the 28 day mark and we are at the 24 day mark.

Not yet, but they should be coming this week.

As far as the liquor goes, there are regular posters to the board with major connections in the Disney realm as well as the port realm and they are currently trying to get the "final" word on all of this. The word should be coming down in the next day or so. If it ends up being true, then we just need to accept it. You never know the reasons for these changes---did they detect something, hear something, intercept something--who knows. With all the families onboard, it only makes sense to error on the side of caution. I wouldn't bother calling Disney directly at this point. You will only get 10 different answers from 12 different people. It will take a while to filter the information to the lower levels of the company.

Here's what Shirley was able to find out:

MARCH 19, 2008---UPDATE ON CARRY ON AND IDS
This is the information I was able to find out

Guests are permitted to bring their beverages, HOWEVER, they MUST carry these items onboard the ship. The size is equal to the airline requirements which is a SMALL CARRY ON (BAG). These carry on (bag)'s must be able to fit through the X-RAY machine. As most know there are signs posted on the side of the terminal with these requirements. You can also check the DCL sailing brochure as it is listed there as well.
PLEASE DO NOT TIP the porter to accept the items to deliver to your rooms since they are not able to accept this offering.
COOLERS ARE NOT PERMITTED and you will be advised to return the cooler back to your vehicle.
At this time, DCL does not confiscate any of the above items as the other cruise line do especially RCCL.

I hope that the above information will ease your anxiety as to what you can do and can not do.
Always
Shirley

PS ... I'm sure everyone knows who shirley is, right?

and PPS ... looks like by "COOLERS", it still refers to the hard-sided Igloo type coolers ...soft sided ones should still be allowed.

:woohoo:

whew!!

I noticed that there were dinners open since Monday night. I was wondering if people have cancelled some since the dinner rotations seem to be changing. I am also looking for a brunch because I really want to eat dinner with the kids. Also since this is our first Disney cruise I wanted to be in the dining room for the first dinner at each restaurant and I also didn't want to not be in the dining room for Formal and Semi-formal since the kids also have clothes for that.

A Moderator posted this as well:

To repeat what's been said before.

The restrictions on carryons has not changed folks. The 'in writing' restrictions are not to be ignored, but in actual practice DCL is a good deal more lienient.

Hardsided coolers are not allowed.
Ice is not allowed. You can get plenty once you're in your cabin from your room steward.

A softsided rolling cooler bag full of your beverages of choice is ok as long as it'll fit in the airport size scanner, same kind of dimensions as the small rolling luggage you can buy just about anyplace.

The changes:

Nothing shipped ahead of time. Anything shipped will be returned to sender by DCL's port package contractor.

Nothing in the way of bulk food/beverages checked thru at the port, this is the big one for a lot of people, the cases of beer/water and such sent thru in luggage or just tagged arn't going to go anymore.

As Shirley said elsewhere, just be reasonable on what you're doing folks. DCL doesn't want to impede you having a good time, they just have rules they have to follow too.

I'm glad everything worked out for you!

Man, I am getting super excited ... it's so close!!

I just printed out all of my confirmations ... hotel, air, car to the port and car from the port ... kids club registrations, etc ... we tried on summer clothes last night ... now all we need is for the days to pass super fast and we'll be GOLDEN!!!

This may help you. Brunch is a buffet style meal. If I had to chose a meal to eat at Palo, I would chose dinner. You can go to your normal dinner service and order appetizers and nothing else while your children eat, then put the kids in the clubs and go to a late dinner at Palo. Or reverse it if you have late dinner and have dessert and coffee with the kids or even just go and keep them company. It is an option. The best food is the dinner menus. The brunch is fun and nice with a great sampling of food, but it doesn't rank above the dinner. I would grab a dinner if you can.
