Cast: Me-LeiLani(40), DH-Rich(41), DD-Brittany(15) aka Dale, DD's friend-Brittney (15) aka Chip, & DD-Alyssa(8). Cabin 8030 Walt's Suite. Our 4th cruise, Brittney's 1st cruise.
Also joining us are: FIL-Charles(PaPa) & MIL-Pat(Nanny). Cabin 6048 and their 1st DCL cruise.
If you read part 1 I now have a disclaimer to make. Instead of summary reports these have turned into day-by-day reports, and I did warn you I could babble. Also another side note: to help somewhat with confusion and because of my DDs total lack of common sense we have give the two teenagers the nick names of Chip & Dale.
Sunday - Key West
It was Easter Sunday so they had many activities in the atrium including the White Rabbit, face painting, and handing out Easter Candy. I had ordered Easter Baskets from Shirley and asked that they be held until we pick them up. This became a little problem at guest services on Saturday night because they said the baskets were to be delivered Sunday PM. It took a while to explain to them that Sunday PM was a little after the fact and I never could understand if the baskets were there why was it so hard to get them. Finally, we spoke to Thierry and he handled it for us.
We had our character breakfast this morning. Chip and Dale decided to sleep in and not go to breakfast. (typical teenagers) It was a nice breakfast and Alyssa always enjoys seeing the characters. Other cruisers have posted and I have to agree after this last trip that it does seem a little rushed with the characters. A ships photographer follows the character around and they take a picture and move on. We still had a great time. Dale had noticed a teenage boy sitting near us at dinner the previous evening and his table was right next to ours in Parrot Cay. She thought he was so cute actually I think her exact words were, Mom, he is so hot!!!(oh to be a teenager again) She missed out since she slept in.
After breakfast we made sure Chip & Dale were up so they could get ready for our excursion in Key West. The rest of us went to the concierge sail in party on deck 10. This is a special invite party for concierge guests only and takes place at the Outlook bar. They have free drinks and snacks as we watch the ship pull into Key West. I really like this event because it is a great view of Key West and you are right in front of the horns when they sound. It is very loud, but oh so Magical.
Alyssa was staying on the ship with Nanny so they went off to swim. The rest of us headed off the ship for our excursion. We were doing the Jet Ski tour with Island Watersports. They are located right at the pier where the ship docks, so it is very convenient. The cost of the excursion was $95 per jet ski ($10 for each additional rider up to 3) for a 1-½ hour guided tour around Key West. There were about 10-15 of us total in the group. Charles rode alone, Rich rode with Dale, and I rode with Chip. (You must be 18 to ride alone) The tour was great. We had one guy who was the leader and then there were 3 other guys who patrolled the group to make sure no one got lost or had trouble. At times we were kept in a single line and other times when we could span out and go as fast as we wanted as long as we did not pass the leader. The tour took us 27 miles round the island of Key West with stops on both the Gulf and Atlantic sides. We really had no previous experience with jet skis, but they were easy to ride and the tour was a lot of fun. This excursion is great for adults and older children, but could be kind of hard on a younger child especially if they do not like getting bounced around a lot or is timid about open water.
That evening MIL, FIL, Rich, & I went to Palo for dinner. It was awesome as usual. I couldnt wait for the Pizzas and the soufflé. Our server was Kristof from Belgium and he was excellent. We requested him for the rest of our Palo reservations. Chip & Dale went to our dinning rotation in PC. After dinner they proceeded to tell us that they met the cute guy(Joe) and his father was a fellow DISer we had yet to meet. I had been looking for Doug for 2 days and here we were eating dinner and breakfast right next to each other. Rich and I went to Cove Café to have a few drinks
until it was time to pick Alyssa up from the lab. She had a great time; they went to see Brother Bear and had a Piñata Party. Chip & Dale met up with Joe and some other friends and went to the dance in the Stack.
While in Cove Café we met Lourdes a CM from the Philippines. We were watching CNN on the TV and they showed a typhoon near the Philippines and she was worried about her daughter and family. By the time she got me a set of earphones the story was over so I could not tell her much, but later in the week I made her day.
