I was told today that I will be attending a work-related service luncheon on Wednesday. I will be one of the honorees. It will be at Maggiano's. I will be meeting all the bigwigs in the company for the first time. Can I get away with blouse, slacks, and heels or should I wear a suit?

I would wear a suit I work for a large corp and if it was me I'd pull one out, pants or skirt.

Congrats on being recognized!

I think you should go get a fake bake and then wear a provoctive dress best suited for girls attending Homecoming.

That was going to be my second suggestion, a way to stand out in the crowd. :rotfl:

It's hard to answer the question without knowing the environment of the company you work for. What will the bigwigs be wearing? I would try to dress similarly to them.

Where I work, even the president of the company does not wear a suit.

I have no idea. I am the only person in the corporation stationed at my site. My sole source of contact with ANYONE in my company, including my supervisor, is by e-mail or phone. I wear a regular shirt and khakis or jeans to work everyday. The HR person told me to "dress nicely" but that's it. Maybe I should e-mail her tomorrow and ask her to clarify. I only own one suit and I'm not sure how "stylish" it is because I haven't been suit shopping in years. It is a slate blue dress suit with lab coat style jacket. I look dorky in it but it fits well.
When I met with HR several months ago at their site, they all seemed to be wearing typical office attire like blouse and skirt/slacks (not full suits).

Do you own any dresses? I would wear a dress, a nice black one or red one? You always wear pants, wouldn't it be nice to wear a dress?

Clarifying with the HR person is probably a good idea.

I think you need to go shopping for a smart, tailored PANTSUIT. That's a good compromise between the khakis look and a skirted suit. A great pantsuit is an investment, as long as you don't go for anything too trendy, you will be able to wear it forever.

I wouldn't go in something that made me feel dorky. :)

I'd wear a suit. I would always rather be a little overdressed then feeling uncomfortable at a table surrounded by suits. Plus I'm comfy in a suit, and know I can just slip off the jacket if everyone else is a little less formal. A pantsuit would be a good match.

The problem is the luncheon is Wednesday, and I don't have time to go shopping for a pants suit before then.

The dress pants aren't khakis, they are dress slacks. I have many nice blouse and slacks outfits because of the conferences I attend.
