Appropriate Clothing

Did you see in the news about that 13 year old girl with red hair, that wrote to a store and asked them to please put higher waste pants and lower shirts in their stores.

I can't remember the girls name or the store she wrote to. The store responded that they would try to get more appropriate clothing for pre-teens and younger teens in their stores. I have to see it to believe it. It will probably take 3 more years.

Anyway, they said she is the new media princess and she is being interviewed every where.

In the article the person who wrote the article made a stupid remark about girls are going to end up looking like nuns wearing drab clothes once again. (Some people just don't get it).

Child's Complaints About Skimpy Clothing Styles Get Attention

SEATTLE -- Nordstrom officials say they're paying attention to an 11-year-old girl who wants more modest clothing.

Ella Gunderson of Redmond, Wash., complained that clerks at a Seattle-area Nordstrom's told her there is only one look for girls -- low-riding jeans that show their belly buttons or underwear. Gunderson wrote the store a letter, saying she doesn't want to walk around half-naked.

The store manager wrote back, saying she agrees there should be choices for everyone.

The Seattle clothing store chain says it will educate purchasing managers and sales people on offering a range of fashion choices.

I agree completely. 'Tweens shouldn't go around looking like hookers (sorry!) in hot pants and tube/halter tops. I have an 11yr. old DD and shopping is a nightmare.

I'm going to be eighteen in a little over two weeks.

I can safely say that teenagers and even preteens definitely want to dress this way, and "why" is irrelevant. More power to them: I see no problem with it. Regardless of other moral standards that society may have established, the natural inclinations of people going through puberty is to either explore sexually or express themselves the same way. There's not a lot you can do, and it's not something you can smother.

A lot of girls this age generally want to dress that way, and if Nordstrom wants to play a PR game by complying to this girl's request, they'll feel the negative financial repurcussions soon. That's not a value judgment... it's just the way it is.

I think a lot has to do with the parents too!!! I would never allow my children to leave the house looking like some of these girls do today. I am 24 years old and in almost perfect shape and I don't wear anything that shows my breast or butt!! I don't curse either. I am very blunt about certain things but I think that you should be a lady in public and a ***** in the bedroom.

Children learn my example and my fi's ex is a perfect one. SHe totally dresses like she is 18 and she is 33. SHe has a 13 yr old daughter that is already starting to want to wear her clothes and how is going to sound when her mother says, "no honey, I can dress like a ***** but you have to wait until your 18."

Yeah,right!!

While there may be a lot of girls that want to dress that way, there may also be a lot of girls who feel that they have limited clothing choices because that is mostly whats available. I can also point out to you that there are girls who should NEVER consider dressing that way. I saw a young lady who was at least 40 pounds over weight. She had a very short flared white mini skirt, a short top and black heels. She reminded me of the hippo in Fantasia. Two questions came to mind. What was she thinking and where is her mother!

Secondly, I won't spend the money to shop at Nordstrom so there making the effort to respond to her request will not do a lot for the market at large.

Yeah mum! You know me right?? You have known me for years and that is how you know I am such a liar. I have nothing to prove to any of you people and I am not the first person who has come to this board and been harrassed by you people, but I could care less because there are MANY people here secure enough with their own lives that they don't have to spend their time looking up people's bios and past posts. Actually you are pitiful and funny!! Do you really think that people don't notice that your stories change on every different post?? I agree that you need to check your meds or see if there is some imbalance there or something.
