I’ve been debating on when I should let my 4 yr old(well almost 5 in a few months) daughter watch the star war movies. Does anyone have thoughts or ideas how or when I should do this?? Thanks

My son is 5 (now almost 5 and 1/2) and he first watched Star Wars when he was 4. He didn't get a lot of the references, but he sat through it and enjoyed it.

It depends on your kid. My DD didn't frighten easily. So she was probably six when she watched the original trilogy (IV, V, VI) and Phantom Menace. And I don't like the scene with the Tauntaun so I made her close her eyes. And the rest of the movies are rated PG-13.

Seems like around 5yrs old would probably be a good age to start watching with some regulating on my part. Thanks for the feed back, It’s much appreciated!!

my girls (5 and 8) have seen them all many times starting when each was 3

My grandsons ages 5 and 8 enjoy the action parts of the Star Wars movies but when there's an extended talking scene, the boys get antsy. It really depends on the personality of the kids.

I remember going to a movie with a friend in the 6th grade. She got bored and walked around the theatre instead of watching part of the movie. This was before ADHD was a diagnosis. Or maybe she just wasn't into that movie.

My son was 5 or 6 when he started watching but I would only allow him to watch the original trilogy and episode 1, and I censored a couple of fight scenes (including the iconic arm cutting scene). The newer ones are too gory for little ones, in my opinion, at least episodes 2 and 3. CGI is too good nowadays.

I was 7 when the first movie came out and I will never forget seeing it in the theatre. One of the defining experiences of my life! My sons probably started watching it by around 3 or 4, because I remember taking them to Revenge of the Sith in the theatre, and at that time they were 7 and 5 and for sure had been watching the movies for several years by that point.
Any age is a great age to start watching Star Wars lol.

If you let your kid watch the Lion King he can watch Star Wars. I mean Lion King has a brother kill the other and a little kid gets sent off on it’s own.

Star Wars I have seen toddlers watch and no issues. May be hard to understand.

I was 20 when the first Star Wars came out. I lost interest in the franchise by about age 30. On the surface, I was VERY disappointed when Disney bought Lucasfilms and the Star Wars push in the parks. I say on the surface, because I still cash the nice Disney stock dividend checks I get with the money Star Wars is bringing in.
I would hesitate to take a child under about age 8 to see any of the movies, because it might just be too complicated for them. But that's just me.

I watched my first Star Wars movie when I was 39, it was too soon lol.

For real though, depends on your child, watch them as they're watching the movie and you'll know if its the right time or not.

I was 17 when I first saw it. I wasn’t impressed and never saw another one. I’m not a fan of science fiction and/ or space films.

Totally depends on the kid. I'd say it's fantasy violence and wouldn't hesitate IF the kid was already into other action stuff. If however the kid was still big into very calm little kid targeted things like Paw Patrol or Sesame Street then I'd maybe wait a bit. Maybe start with Star Wars Rebels or another cartoon?

For the record though I loved Tremors and Jaws at age 8. At age 4-5 I was trying to sneak-watch Tales From the Crypt already. Monsters <3

Depends on the level of violence you want to expose your kid to, at what age. Even the classic trilogy has a lot of gore. Luke's aunt's and uncle's bodies burnt and smoldering, the arm that gets cut off in the cantina, etc.

By 4 or 5 is good.....only potential issue would be the end of Ep 3, as Anakin gets a bit crispy near the end.
