applying amazon certificate?

Does anyone know how I can apply my Amazon gift certificate? I picked out what I want and everytime I try to cash out using my certificate it says that I need a credit card? Can anyone help? Can't I just apply my certificate? Thank you for your help.

Is your certificate already in your amazon account? (when you get a certificate you get a code number that is letters and numbers, that must be added to your account before you can use it, do this by clicking my account and then sign in, and then click on add a gift certificate to your account) Then once it is in there, when you make a purchase it will say "use gift ceritificate for this order" or something to that effect and then you just check the box next to it indicating that you want to use it. If your gift certificate is not sufficient to cover the amount of purchase it will prompt you for your credit card OR if the item is not an actual amazon item (like something in apparel) you will not be able to use the certificate at all. Toys R Us and a few other things are ok for use with the certificate, but some others are not.

I had that same problem. What I was trying to purchase was actuall from Osh Kosh and not Amazon. I called the company when I couldn't figure out why I was not able to use my coupon. He told me that you can see on each item description page who is the actual vendor and it needs to be Amazon. I found it very hard to find any Amazon items. Good luck!

thanks for your responses. I ordered the princess party stuff for $9.98 that was on mousesavers. I figured the problem out. It had free shipping so I thought that my total would have been $9.98. I didn't figure in tax and it didn't show me that I owed tax. It just kept saying that I needed a credit card and I sure wasn't going to put one in when my total didn't exceed my total. I put another gift certificate in just to see if this would change anything. As soon as I did it showed the total with the tax. I don't know why it didn't say I owed $10.48 and that was why. I didn't it just kept saying total $9.98 and that I needed to show a credit card#. Anyway, I got it ordered and can't wait to see her party goods come in. Thanks again for your help.
