I hate to even post this (since I had been told in the past it was not allowed, and I assumed that was still true, and I liked it that way), but said I would post once I got the answer. I personally would rather not smell food cooking in my room, but apparently, Disney has lifted the rules about this. At least the person who wrote me did. I did ask he be specific about which resorts, but of course he wasn't..or just assumed I would know he means all the resorts. I notice that unlike other answers I have gotten, there is no reference number with the name on this note, not that that means anything..just commenting on that fact. I would have preferred to have gotten a response from Guest Services, and not the online communications, but in any case, here is the answer I got. Here is my question, and their answer (I included the details from the email, showing where it is from on the bottom):
***
To Guest Relations:
Can you please let me know if cooking appliances (toasters, microwaves, Geroge Foreman Grills or even coffee pots) are allowed in rooms? If so,
which appliances. And if in just some (deluxes, vs values), I'd like to know that too. I thought they were not allowed, but people calling the resorts and at check-in are being told they are fine.

Dear Doris,

Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World® Resort.

Electric appliances may be brought with you to the resort. We only ask that they are unplugged when
leaving the room.

If you have questions or need further assistance, feel free to contact us.

Please include your full name, E-Mail address, and reservation number if applicable on all
correspondence.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Earl Kutschke

Well if I smell food cooking in a room near me, I will be on the phone to Guest Relations every time it happens expecting them to FIX the problem. I should not have to smell your food cooking. Hotels don't have vents to air this out.

I agree, however, I'm just posting what they sent me. I was very surprised. I wish I had heard directly form guest services, instead of where I did. I hope others have written..I'd be interested to see if we all get the same answers.

I don't cook in my room either, but to each his own. I wouldn't call Guest Relations. I can't stand the smell of coffee, but should I call Guest Relations every time I smell it in the morning?

I think this is a bad move on Disney's part. They can't fill the rooms without George Foreman coming along? Shouldn't they be charging for an extra adult if George comes along?

I guess that would exclude crock pots since they want them unplugged when you're not in the room.

Good point. I hadn't thought about that.

Aside from the smell getting into the drapes, bedspreads, etc..(which I won't be happy about) I'm concerned about the food preparation. People cutting raw meat on the bathroom counter or table, pouring grease down the drain, lack of ventillation, etc...Like there isn't enough wear and tear on the rooms. God forbid, someone sets off the sprinkler system.

CI think cooking in rooms should be restricted to DVC resorts. It is not appropriate in all other places because of all the reasons posted in the other replies.

Up until now, I had been told there was no cooking in the rooms. But the above is the reply I got, and others are also being told that appliances are alright. So while I may think it's not a good idea, it seems it is allowed. I would have been more comfortable if the letter had come from guest services, and not the online communications department. Anyone else get a note back? Several had said they were writing. I find it hard to believe, and if I hadn't gotten this note myself, I wouldn't believe it LOL!

You definitely would not like the room we had on club level at Hard Rock Hotel at Universal. I swear it was right above the main kitchen. Every morning I awoke to the smell of bacon. It was nauseating. How would you fix that problem?

Many times we have brought a portable grill and had a cook out on our balcony. We usually grill enough for the people in the rooms next to us so not to offend them. :rolleyes1
