Appliances, (Have You Ever Brought Them?)

We've been able to do quite well with cold foods stored in the fridge. We just don't like eating out all the time, so we will bring food to eat something lighter and possibly healthier.

Our local Wawa has condiment packs that are listed as costing "0" so that means they are free. I will grab a couple of mayo and mustard packs every time I go so I have a decent supply for a trip if necessary. We bring tuna in pouches, pb&j and buy pre-packaged lunch meat and cheese at the resort store for lunch or dinner. When we have a microwave, we've brought individual mac & cheese and soups. Breakfast is the easiest of course.

There's plenty of room food options that don't require cooking if you take some time to investigate them. Good luck!

I plan on bringing a hand blender for my protein shakes. But it doesn't create heat, so I don't think it will be a problem.

So to those who haven't rented the villas, have you ever brought an appliance such as a toaster, waffle maker, sandwich press, egg cooker, etc., to the resort to help with food costs during your stay at WDW?

No, I just bring items that do not require use of appliances. Usually it is not so much to save money on breakfast, but to give me more down time in the morning before heading out. I cannot always do a heavy breakfast so simply items help.

Although, if I needed something warmed up, I probably would just take it to the food court/quick service area and use the microwave or toaster that most of the resorts have available.

FYI: The small coffee makers most hotels have are great for Cream of Wheat and Oatmeal. Just run water through to heat and pour in and stir. I do this when I travel and know I will not have time to get breakfast for some reason.

I brought a freezer in April to POFQ. It's the size of a small dorm refrigerator, cube shaped, but a freezer, not a fridge. Bell services unloaded it from my car, and brought it to my room. No one ever questioned it. Bell services packed it up and loaded it back into my car at the end of my stay.

Yes... back when the disboards allowed us to have fridge swaps... I participated several times and some swaps included coffee makers and toasters. We would use the coffee maker to brew coffee and use it for hot water for instant oatmeal, too.

We never really used these items to save money because we've always booked the dining plan and always have too many credits. It was more of a convenience to have a breakfast in the room.

On our last trip, we didn't have these things and we ate more breakfasts in the parks, but missed having a leisurely breakfast in our PJs.

Nope I wouldn't do it as it isn't allowed. And I wouldn't want to waste space in a suitcase, or spending money shipping anything down. Especially when Disney provides microwaves in the food courts for guests to use.

If I felt the need to have more than an in-room fridge or coffee maker, I'd stay some place else. Lugging along and finding room for additional appliances doesn't sound like fun to me. I'm on vacation.

If we wanted/needed to eat in our room, we'd do cold cereal, sandwiches or something like that. If it was imperative we eat hot meals that we cooked, we'd rent a house.

Exactly, thank you for acknowledging that. When I created this post, it was very strictly just to see how some people may have thought about the situation. I was not, nor am I, in any way looking to break Disney policies or cause trouble. I know it's not permitted for obvious reasons, but like people who try to bring kids into adult-only pools at resorts around the world (saw a great example of that at Vegas) sometimes people break the rules for whatever reason they want to rationalize.

EDIT: And to include, if I ever wanted to bring items, I definitely would only do it when it was possible, like a villa. Or flat out rent a house near WDW for the week. :) But that's highly unlikely for me- when I go on vacation, I don't want to cook, at all. LOL. I'm the kind of person who enjoys eating out on vacation, WDW is no exception.

So you just posted to get an idea of how many people break the rules?

I've never brought an appliance from home as the thought to do so never entered my mind. :confused3 Had it, I still wouldn't have due to the fire hazard that's involved, not to mention the pounds it would add to my suitcase!

I know it's not permitted for obvious reasons,

Integrity is doing the right thing regardless of your personal rationalizations on the subject. you either have it, or you don't

even if it were permitted( and I am glad it is NOT) why in hell would I waste valuable luggage space( and weight) lugging all that crap along?

far too many viable options that do not require any sort of cooking utensil.

But many people drive so taking a toaster wouldn't be that big of a deal. Or a blender for frozen drinks in your room. Or a coffee maker or even an electric skillet. I can definitely see not wanting to pack things up in a suitcase and hand that over to an airline.

Before they had fridges at Pop I used to participate in the fridge swap. I would be too chicken to use anything that heats up, though. The lack of cooking options in the regular rooms is why we now stay at the Villas for longer trips. We usually eat quite healthy at home, so more than a few days in a row of restaurant food does us in.

we took the auto train one year and packed a mini fridge and a microwave! no one said anything and we were fine. I was a bit nervous, thinking that mouse keeping would say something. not only did she not say anything, she provided us with items to help us out (utensils, extra napkins and towels and set out table up). we travel with stuffed animals so she had each of them sitting at the table as if they were waiting for a meal!!
