Apple TV

I called Apple support yesterday. After an hour on the phone with them, still "no joy" sharing from my MacBook. :( They are referring the problem to their engineers who will call me back today or tomorrow. Until then......:surfweb:

Update on my Apple TV problem - Apple support called back and had me run a capture program and send results. They suggested that it was probably the firewall and could not have anything to do with the iPod Touch remote set up. They were partly right and partly wrong. After hanging up with them and no solution, I found that my firewall had blocked an internet address for sending a large download of information at the time I was programming the iPod Touch. When I unblocked that address, my library showed up again. Problem solved!

I bought one for my DH for Christmas (along with a Netflix subscription) and he LOVES it! He loves to watch Netflix movies and I introduced him to the Hundreds or Thousands of Internet radio stations! There is an ABC Beatles channel on Classic Rock where we heard "raw" recordings of classic Beatles songs & some songs that never made it to albums!

I enjoy watching my iphone photos on my TV, listening to my iTunes library on the tv/speakers and controlling the tv with my iPhone and my new iPad!

It's so cool and I recommend it highly! We haven't rented any movies or tv shows from iTunes yet, but I don't think my DH will EVER run out of something to watch on tv!

Plus the Netflix app on my iPhone and iPad allows me to watch movies there too!

Fellow ATV owners, is there anything else I should know about how we can use all of our apple products together with Netfix?

Thanks, Maria

We got one. My wife loved it so much that she called me at work today and told me that we had to order a second one.

We have loved the Amazon rental store and used it quite a bit with our Tivo. I was a little disappointed that it's not available on the Apple TV. However, I rented a tv show from Apple this evening and was surprised at how quickly it started and how great the quality was.

The killer app for my wife is the ability to grab podcasts and music from her iTunes library. She can't grab Audible audiobooks from the Apple TV, but she can use AirTunes to stream it to the device. A little odd, but not a real problem.

I've loved browsing iTunes from my computer before - just seeing what Apple is featuring. The Apple TV comes close to the serendipity of a video store discovery.

My parents have a tough time operating their DVD player. I'm betting an Apple TV is going to wind up connected to their tv before too long. This is just too good of a device.

I love the apple remote which I use on my ATV and Mac Book Pro. I use it on front row on my Mac Book Pro, although sometimes it would probably be quicker to do it manually via the keyboard (and after all - it is another remote to lose down the side of the sofa).
I wonder what this will mean for hotel tv systems?

I don't think Apple TV is quite ready for that yet!

Ben

This weekend, we upgraded our Apple TV to the Mac Mini/PLEX system. What a huge improvement, and very, very cool.

At the suggestion of a good friend, we purchased an Apple TV last night and we LOVE IT! We watched several Samantha Brown Episodes last night that we had downloaded from Itunes. I am now hooked on it.

Its amazing what such a compact, simple package can do. :thumbsup2

Just read that Apple has now sold two million of these little devices. Pretty amazing for a niche product. :3dglasses

We purchased an Apple TV a few weeks ago and love it. It was really easy to set up and we started using it immediately. Our daughter's dance studio is performing the Wizard of Oz and they have incorporated some music from "The Wiz" (the one with Michael Jackson). Our daughter mentioned that it would be neat if she could watch "The Wiz". We went right to the Apple TV and a few minutes later we had rented and were watching the movie.

We also love showing our photos, TV episodes from iTunes and home movies. When I bought it, my wife thought it was just another toy for me (which it is), but I think she is see how much we could all use it.

I actually ordered one of the new ones when preorder started back in September 2010. Although I think it is priced pretty good at $99, I ended up cancelling after realizing I could get a Blu-Ray player that could perform everything except the iTunes stuff, for the same price. So I ended up getting an LG Blu-Ray player and I am quite pleased. Who knows someday I still may pick up an Apple TV.

You can also get a refurbed Gen 2 AppleTV for $85 in the Apple Store. "Refurbished" Apple products are new products that can not be sold as new. They have been returned to Apple, touched by a person and restored to factory new condition. The only difference is that the factory refurbed device can not be sold as new. I have purchased several Apple products refurbed and have been very pleased.
