I went on to the Apple.com website and wanted to compare the prices between the ipod / ipad prices in Canadian vs. the U.S. prices....

they are exactly the same.... in the 2 currencies .... does that make sense?
i thought the ipod in the states would be cheaper ..?
I looked at the ipad mini price ..
thanks

That sounds about right, Apple never has sales on their website and their pricing is very similar cross border . You will find seasonal sales at retailers, but no blowout deals.

Another thing to make certain is that you were on the U.S. site the whole time as you may get redirected back to the Canadian Site mid-search. I have had this happen on Apple's site.

ok thanks for the tips..i thought there would be a noticeable price difference...

No they are about the same. I purchased an Ipad 2 for my son for Christmas thru Apple Canada. I noticed that it was about $20 cheaper at Sam's Club shortly after - but Future shop was close behind with the same offer. Apple also offered free engraving on the Ipad as well. It was really interesting to see the tracking record of where the Ipad went when shipped. It started in Korea, then China, Japan, Alaska, Kentucky then Ontario. It is better travelled than we are!

Apple dictates the pricing on thier products.
A retailer is not allowed to sell for anything less then what they state.
If they do they will have their right to sell Apple products pulled.
Canadian/US dollar has been basically Par for the past few years..hense the same retial pricing.

Yeah, its rare to see much difference in price for US/Canada pricing.

Did you get charged duty? I just ordered a fitbit from the Canadian apple store but its coming from the US by FedEx, I won't accept it if there are fees because I bought it from a Canadian website. Am I likely to be upset?

No you shouldn't be charged any duty.

Don't forget to check the refurb store on the apple site for even better deals. I love the refurb they are basically "new", they just come in a plain box vs the fancy box.

I used to work for Canada customs, yes, you may be charged duties (based on where it's made), and taxes based on the Canadian value. It's a real crap shoot though, you never know until it arrives. You may also be charged a brokerage fee depending on the carrier....

No I didn't get charged duty. If you ordered it through the Canadian store - there wouldn't be any duty.

You won't be charged duty for something purchased on the Apple Canada website. When you buy from a Canadian website you are basically buying an item in Canada from a store in Canada so no duty. I bought 3 iPads at Xmas and there was no duty.
