Calling all the Mac fans out there...

My laptop has just about died so I'm going to treat myself to a new one.

Looking for input on what are the differences between the Ibook and the Powerbook. I'm looking for something that is nice and slim, that I can easily carry about with me. I have a mini ipod but I would also be looking to upgrade to the ipod photo.

Any help/advice/thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Oh dear - I have NO idea what you're talking about!!!!

Hi Florence :)

I don't think I can be of much help here as I'm more up to speed on MS and Windows PC's and Laptops than Apples offerings

From what I have briefly read on the Apple site the iBook would appear to be the entry level model of laptop whilst the PowerBook would look to be at the performance end of their range.

I suspect unless you are going to use it for serious graphics or video work then an iBook would be sufficient for your needs, but as I say I am by no means an expert on Apple's products ;)

Thanx Alan ~ I have been looking on the Apple website and the Powerbook looks to be smaller and neater in comparison to the Ibook. That being said there only seems to be a slight difference. I really only want it to transfer items from work via my pen drive and also for use with my ipod.

I think Deb is an Apple girl......but she is in WDW at the mo :(

I was thinking that too Kaylee. I will probably buy it when I am in the States in July, so I still have time LOL.

Florence - I am sure she will be able to help :)

There is a replacement line coming out from apple, with the newer intel chips. I would hold off for a couple of weeks! The annoucement came out yestersday.

"Introducing the new MacBook Pro notebook computer featuring an Intel Core Duo processor which delivers up to four times the performance of the PowerBook G4. Just one inch thin and weighing only 5.6 pounds, the MacBook Pro also includes a built-in iSight video camera, an Apple Remote and Front Row software. [Jan 10, 2006]" From the apple website

We are also thinking of replacing our laptop with an ibook or powerbook. We bought a mini mac a few months ago and its fantastic- very easy to use! Also find it a lot more stable than our "windows pc"(which is of a higher spec)for editing videos and photos!

The ibooks tend to be a lesser spec and slightly cheaper than the powerbook! As someone has already mentioned- they are just in the process of changing the processor so I would hold off for a few weeks!

We have turned into complete Appleheads since we bought our Ipods!!

I agree with the other posters I would really wait until the new ones hit the Apple website !! The new ''book'' is way more efficient and has better components, is really quick too due to the processor speeds and the memory , lets not forget they don't get the virus problems of a Windows computer. We are all Mac users at our house, converts never to return to the ghastly days of a slow windows machine (except the ones at work) Mac machines just get better all the time!! :worship: :worship: :worship:

Hang on! :sunny:

Macs are slower than comparable Windows systems,
and they DO suffer from viruses, maybe not to the same extent as Windows systems, but that's because there are a lot more people using windows over the macs. you might as well say that you should go for a LInUx system if that's the case!
Mac Users, I dunno, their machines sit in the corner of their houses next to their Betamax video systems, their lava lamps and their collection of 8 track cartridges for their Toyota Pruius electric cars :rotfl: :rotfl2: :teeth: :teeth:
(ps we have both macs and windows in our house)

My old laptop has windows on it and my computer at work and my home computer both have windows too.

The reason for my thoughts about Mac products is because I am wanting to replace my ipod and also I have been looking at a new PDA. Apple laptops also seem to be alot smaller and compact than the other laptops I have looked at.

I am still open to suggestions though. I really would like a laptop which I could put into my briefcase and can accommodate the above requirements.

I have about four laptops, just seem to collect them for various uses :sunny:
The Sony range are very good and small, with excellent screens. We use my Sony Vaio for the iPODs never had a connection problem.
