Appetizer vs. Dessert

That's going to work both ways, too, though, I'm going to order an appetizer either way, I'll just pay for it OOP if it's not part of the plan, and I'll order dessert anyway because it's included. And I probably wouldn't eat it there, I'd be more likely to take it to go for a snack later or breakfast the next day, so in my case, and probably others, too, it could actually decrease table time. I really think it would be a wash.

Yes - but in most cases that appetizer is not going to be included in your dining plan. You are going to pay for it. Disney's willing to sacrifice the turn-around time if you are going to spend extra money. That's where the deluxe dining plan comes in, too. Deluxe diners get all three courses included - but they're spending more. The difference is they are prepaying to get appetizers with every meal.
