The 2008 brochure says that 3-9 gets apps. where do they get to choose their apps. from? Is it the adult menu? I've never seen apps for the kids menu before. Does anyone else think it is strange that they get this included?:confused3

its usually a soup or salad, and 99% of the time its instead of the side. so if your child orders a soup then hotdog. they get just that, soup and hotdog, if you want fries you either forgo the soup or pay OOP for the fries.

At the table service restaurants, the childrens' menu has the selections for the 3-9 age group. Every menu has probably 2 appetizers, which are usually a salad, a soup or maybe fruit. Your child can select one and then order from the individual entrees offered. Or, there were (and probably still are) the "pre-selected" meals, which are an entree with side and appie. Often what we think is the side in this case is actually the dessert to check with the server.

When the dining plan first came out, restaurants that didn't have appetizers for kids let you select one for them from the adult menu. When Disney realized that it was giving away food far in excess of the plan value, they stopped that and revamped the menus so that all kids meals came with their own appetizer.

We don't care for most, the only one we like being the cheddar cheese soup at Le Cellier and the lobster bisque at Coral Reef.

This whole thing sounded very wierd to me in the way it is stated until I started looking at the kids menus and seeing what the appetizer really meant for them.

Most of the time I wouldn't even call what they get an app., but just a combo meal.

thanks. I just wasnt for sure. I thought when we were there a few years ago they did get an adult app. but that is just too much food for a 5 yr. old. thanks for the info. I'll check the menus for the restaurants we're going to and see what they are a for kids.

No adult appetizers for kids. The kids menu has its own "appetizers" and the kids get those three courses.

Just an F.Y.I., MOST (not all) TS places are flexible about kids mixing and matching off the kids' menu. For example, DS9 loves fruit which is always offered as a kids' dessert option and he was able to get it as his appetizer. Our waitress at Sci-Fi said they were told it didn't matter as long as the kids picked an entree and 2 other items to go with it. So, if your kids don't like the set meals, don't be afraid to ask about changing with other choices on the kids' menu. Again, not every place will do this, but don't be afraid to ask.:goodvibes

Thanks for the info about changing the meals around a little. I know my son would like the pizza, but not the yogurt parfait and carrots....he would prefer soup, pizza and a scoop of ice cream. I'm glad to know it's ok to at least ask to mix and match. :)
