Hi, anyone no if its posible to have an appertiser instead of an entree? I love to have the cheese soup at le cellier and a desert! will they let me? we will be on the regular dining plan and have never done the dining plan before.
Thanks

As far as I know that is a definite no-no,it has happened in the past but last year servers were told that they were in no circumstances allowed to swap them.We just paid for ours OOP.

that seems really strange that you wouldn't be allowed to do that since a bowl of soup would be much cheaper than a filet?!!!

i think i asked this question before and someone said it wouldn't be a problem

You can't substitute an appetizer for a dessert, ever. But you may be able to substitute one for an entree.

Unless you are on free dining it would not be very cost effective to substitute cheese soup for a Le Cellier entree.

To the best of our (general, on the DIS Dining forums) knowledge, this substitute IS permissible - and has been since the beginning of 2008, when Disney changed the DDP to exclude appetizers.

It's very profitable for Disney, and as MakiraMarlena points out, not at ALL cost-effective for the Guest (most likely, but not definitely, your serving would still be the typical appetizer size), but yes, you should be able to do it.

I too have never heard of this substitution being a problem. However, as it's been pointed out, beware of the value.

The cost for a bowl of soup is $7, and the most expensive dessert is $8. However, if you want to add a cup of soup to your DDP meal, it is $5.50.

DH was allowed to do something allong these lines at Wolfgang Puck Cafe. This was back when the basic plan included appetizers-WPC didn't allow sushi rolls as an app but he could order one in place of an entree.

Order the soup and pay OOP, and order your regular meal. The soup alone is not filling and having only soup and a dessert would basically be throwing money for an entree away. As mentioned, that would be an awfully expensive bowl of soup. :confused3

And really, I like the beer cheese soup at Big River Grille much better than the Le Cellier soup. :confused3
