So the phone rings. Caller ID says "Hollywood Studios"...hmmm, my big break? Someone in Hollywood said, "Hey, he's got good ideas, let's bring him in?" No, wait...area code 407...DISNEY! I won a big trip and a night in the Cinderella's Castle! That MUST be it!!
Nah. "I'm calling in response to your email..."
Well, you're going to have to be a LOT more specific than that...
"It was about Disney Insider and Pleasure Island..."
Oh, THAT one.
Back on January 12th, the Disney Insider email that got sent out had as its "Do You Know Disney?" trivia question, "What is celebrated every night on Pleasure Island?"
Of course, all the snide comments came out ("Crumbling buildings and cigars...") before I clicked the link to see their answer:
"New Years Eve"
Well, that just hit a nerve. Not only do they not really celebrate anything (well, there is that "Celebrate You" or whatever it is), but they stopped the NYE thing in 2005.
So I sent an email. Seriously didn't expect anything back. I explained how dismayed I was at the present state of PI, how having purchased DVC at SSR with the idea of being able to walk over there any evening and enjoy the clubs and now having had my purchased devalued, etc. for them to act like it is still there and unchanged was rubbing salt in a wound.
Apparently they got the email and read it.
The cast member did try and explain that they "probably" (shouldn't they know) meant the current "Celebrate You" thing they do with the DJs, stilt walkers, etc. I mentioned how I had not seen it myself (why would I go there now?) but no one I know was impressed. She did say that because it was "crowd participation" it was hit-and-miss on different nights, but she was with me in missing the AC and the other clubs and having a safe place for adults to enjoy.
They are being very picky about vendors/tenants (I forget what word was used, but it did imply that it is solely 3rd-party targets) for a long term relationship, which is why everything is going slow. But she did say that they were sharing my email with the "correct people". Now, I've heard that statement before from other places, but if they at least picked up a phone and called to talk to me about it, I think that it may in fact be true.
And this isn't the first time. My story about our AKV "Savanna View" 1BR room last year can be found elsewhere, but long story short it wasn't really a savanna view. Some time later I got a call from Member Satisfaction to discuss it, and they said they were looking into it, and said that if they HAD to they could reclassify the rooms.
Lo and behold, 2011 point charts come out, and DVC owners are all up in arms because of the points changes at AKV - and it turns out they reclassified a number of SV rooms to standard. So yeah, that was all my fault
But they ARE listening. They may not be paying attention, but they are listening...
