We are going to Disney in 31 days  I was wondering how the app and desert thing works with breakfast. We are on the dxdp and eating at Kona 1 day (our only non buffet bfast) and I was wondering if we get an app and desert

No you do not. You get an entree and drink or one full buffet. The information can be found in the 2011 Deluxe Dining PDF on the Disney website.

ahhh...there I go not reading stuff fully. I was hoping it did tho..I was thinking Tonga Toast for an app, tonga toast for entree and tonga toast for desert...add a diet soda to keep my girlish figure :rotfl:

Breakfasts include neither appetizers nor desserts, on any plan.

It used to be allowed to get a second beverage in lieu of dessert, but that was discontinued at the start of 2011.

Breakfast of champions!

Breakfast is the great rip-off on the dining plan. Use credits for breakfast, and you will be bleeding money on the plan.

At the very least, with deluxe TS breakfast, they should allow an extra side or something.
Unless you eat Steak & Eggs for breakfast, most of the TS resort breakfasts top out at about $14 (for entree and beverage and tax). Even if you get steak & eggs, you're still just talking about $20ish.
Tonga Toast and cappacino puts you back about $16 or $17.
Allowing a side -- fruit cup, croissant, etc.. at least would give another $3-$5 of value.

I agree! Boatwrights over PORS used to have the most wonderful fresh strawberries with whipped cream sprinkled with a dab of brown sugar that would be perfect for an appetizer, then those wonderful sweet potato pancakes they had for an entree.:cloud9:

Your dislike of the dining plans has been well-documented. If you know how to use the plans correctly, you'll always come out ahead.

Even though the OP wasn't asking about it, for example, using a DP credit for a character meal breakfast, and having your children spend time with 4-5 characters that would otherwise take two hours to pull-off in the parks, is an invaluable usage of a credit on the DP for breakfast. The one thing more important in this world than money is time. You can always make more money. You'll never get back the time that you've lost, particularly on vacation. :)

I merely said that most of the breakfasts were rip-offs on the dining plan, I didn't say that the breakfasts were not worthwhile in themselves. And I'm not always an enemy of the dining plan, I use free dining, upgraded to deluxe, myself.

Even putting aside 2012 prices.. just looking at 2011 prices -- At about $45 per adult. Most non-character TS breakfasts are under $20. (Most are under $15). So even if you have a $20 TS breakfast (steak and eggs), and a $4 snack, you would need to find a $20+ CS meal just to break even for the day.

Most of the character meals are only slight better. Breakfast at Crystal Palace is $29. Throw in a $4 snack and a $15 CS lunch/dinner... And you save a miniscule $3 or $4 for the day.
Only a couple of the character breakfasts provide any real value under the DDP.

Where all TS credits are treated the same --- The typical non-character breakfast costs about $15-20.... While the typical non-character lunch dinner, easily costs $25-$35. The typical CS breakfast costs about $8-$10, while the typical CS lunch/dinner costs $15-18.
And of the character meals, the typical character breakfast is under $30 (except for Akershus I believe, and CRT which is 2 credits), while the typical character dinner is over $35.

So it's pretty easy to see, that breakfasts are not generally a good use of credits.

We are on the Dxddp for our Feb trip and did not book any ADR's for breakfast because of this reason, it is not a good deal for 1TS credits, we mainly booked a 1TS lunch and a 2TS dinner each night. We are not big breakfast eaters either tho and can go till lunch almost every day without eating anything.

we, too, are on the DxDDP and because we like b'fast and because we find value in the character b'fasts, we are planning to do a b'fast and a 2TS every day... for some of our in-park b'fasts we are going early before the park opens, for others we are doing the latest b'fast almost brunch when we have a later dinner... even w/doing b'fast/2TS every day, we are more than getting a good bang for our buck...

when we did the DxDDP last time, we found lunch and dinner was too much food too close together... even when we did a late-ish dinner...

It happened smack in the middle of our trip this past Jan. We went the 2nd through the 8th. On the fourth, we could get 2 drinks. On the 5th, nope.

thanks for all of the responses. Since we are arriving early on our arrival day and leaving in the afternoon of our departure day our meals are getting spread out pretty good with a Character bfast each morning except for our rest day after MNSSHP where we are eating late at Kona for bfast. We are then eating a TS dinner each day as well.

If you know how to use the plans correctly, you'll always come out ahead.

Which is assuming you want to eat the way that the plan "forces" you to eat when you use it correctly. Opinions from both sides are welcome, because not everyone wants to eat in the manner you must eat to get the most out of a dining plan. (Full disclosure - I really dislike the dining plan and I don't use it anymore.) Havoc is actually technically correct - you do NOT get the most you could get, strictly based on monetary value, out of any of your DDP credits if you use them for breakfast. Of course if you love breakfasts you are going to book them anyway, especially if you will be doing character breakfasts not for the food, but for access to the characters - but it's good to be reminded that you are pretty much giving up your appetizer/dessert allotments if you do (except for buffets).

At this point, I have not, and will not pay full price for the dining plan. However, I am in the process of planning our 5th free dining vacation. Table Service breakfasts are a big no no for TS credits. They are not worth it, especially when you can eat at WPE for a CS credit. You get table Service quality food and actual table service. Most breakfasts will not exceed $15 and you can easily get a $40 dinner. We're talking about a $25 swing between breakfast and dinner in some cases. 1 or 2 character meal breakfasts are ok with me because it is a buffet and the character interaction helps the value, but I will always you use those credits for lunch or dinner and pay OOP for breakfasts.
