DH and I are in an apartment. I've had it with going out to do laundry each and every week. When I think of the money I've wasted at the laundrymat, I could've probably purchased several washer/dryer sets by now but I just never have looked into it. Does anyone have a set in their apartment. We'd probably have to get the set with the washer on the bottom and the dryer on top. I'm just wondering what's a good brand and how you like yours.

I keep waiting for ours to break so I can get a new fangled set. I keep telling myself to go out and buy a set and give away or sell the old one, but I guess I am too lazy.:lmao:

We have a whirpool one that is 13 years old and works on household current.
But watch out, depending on the type, you may only to be able to do wash or dry. And the loads are really small.

The are full sized stacking models that may be more to your liking if you have a little more space.

I bought a set from sam's club when I was renting an apartment they were exlarge capacity I paid 288 for each one they were GE (I think we don't have them anymore hurricane Katrina got rid of them for me) but they could have been whirlpool. I didn't have the stackables we had a laundry room big enough for each unit.

I got mine at Sears. The washer is a front loader, energy star and the dryer fits right on top. I can do regular sized loads in these and I LOVE them.

I'm poking around online now and was just about to go to Sears' website to see what they have.

we own our condo and have GE stackable spacemaker laundry large capacity washer/dryer (dryer on top) - i love it, it's quiet and holds a lot of laundry - no problems

Love! Love! Love! my stackable washer and dryer. I paid a little over $650 at Lowe's. It's the smaller kind, but they have the larger type for about a $100 more. They also have it where you can get a gas dryer in the bigger set. As that is what my parents got for their cabin.

I have back problems and this makes doing my clothes so much easier.

I don't have an apartment, but a small house where the only place to put the washer/dryer was the garage. I had to get a laundry center (attached & stacked washer/dryer) from Sears. It's a Kenmore, and I've had it for over a year. I've had no problems with it.

I just bought a Kenmore front-loading washer and dryer from Sears this week and they were delivered yesterday. I spent the next 6 hours doing my laundry. I washed and dried anything and everything that I possibly could. Who would think one person could be so happy doing laundry?

I had the apartment size washer before, not the dryer, but I loved it. Everyone I know that has the stackable kind, loves them. I have the regular washer and dryer now and the stackable kind washes the same amount of clothes that mine does. I would get a set if I were you, not only for the money that you spend at the laundromat, but the convenience. I always hate going to the laundromat if I have something big to wash at home.

Do you have the laundry hookups?

This was my question too. AFAIK, the apartment complexes around here that don't have washer/dryer in each of the units don't even have a hookup for them in the units. (Most of the places do have a common laundry room though on the lowest floor)

No, I don't have the hookups. I did find one online last night that hooks up to the faucet and uses a regular outlet. It's actually a washer/dryer all in one unit. I was a little skeptical but I saw some really good reviews on it. It was about the size of a dishwasher. It WAS pretty pricey at around $1300-something. I'm still looking. I think we're going to go to Sears this weekend. I've had it with lugging everything to the laundrymat. I have been leaving out the door early in the morning to do laundry before going to work just to avoid the crowds on the weekend.

Would love to :laundy: at home.

I had one when we lived in an apt in VT. Don't remember the brand, but it was soooo much better than going to the laundromat. I couldn't have managed spending an entire day lugging a week's worth of laundry down and up a LONG flight of stairs. Not to mention the snow and ice!

The apt didn't have any hookups, but we got the accessories to hook the water up to the kitchen faucet and then the dryer vent hookup that was simple enough to maintain.

Since we had no use for it when we moved the landlord took it in exchange for the last month's rent - sweet!

I used to have a stackable. If I had thought about it,instead of getting the fancy front loader set,I would have bought 2 stackables.

I had hookups installed in my condo when it was converted from an apartment. The w&d that was part of the package is specifically made to be used at apartments w/o hookups. It is made by GE and is stackable.

It is better than not having a w&d, but I really do not like it. The drier runs off of regular household current not 220 and takes forever to dry even the smallest load. There's 220 available for the heating and air so I don't know why they didn't use it.

I've had other stackables over the years and was perfectly happy with them. These are really on the flimsy side and do not work very well at all. I don't think the problem is with the GE brand - just the models that were used.
