Hi All! This may be a silly question that has been answered before, but I couldn't figure out how to even search this in the boards. My DH and I are thinking of getting APs soon as there are no more no expiration tickets and we really like to just come in for 2-3 day special event trips like food and wine, to see christmas decorations, etc. Our plan is to cram our disney visits into one year with an AP, take a year off, and follow that general pattern until we decide to change. Our DD is 16 months now, and we are thinking of taking a trip during food and wine 2016. At that time she will be between 21 and 23 months old. This would mean she turns 3 a few months into our APs. Does Disney ever prorate the cost of toddlers APs so that they actually expire when the parents APs expire? Maybe this is just wishful thinking, but our trip could get really complicated if we have to get her an AP that she can't use for the first 3 months of holding it! Those things ain't cheap! Thanks for your help moms and dads!

i'm a little confused.
an AP lasts for 1yr.
your daughter will only be 21-23 months old which is 1yr9mos-1yr11mos when you buy your AP?
if that is the case she will not reach 36 months (3yrs) until your AP's are expired.

Thanks for responding, and yes, I did make my post a bit unclear. My communication of math is not that great at this hour. However, if we go in fall or winter of 2016 she will be 32 to nearly 36 months old when we first buy our APs.

I don't understand how it's complicated. Buy her a pass if she needs one. If you are planning on taking a year off in between renewing your passes anyway, what does it matter if hers expires after yours? If i understand correctly, you will not be renewing until sometime in 2018, which would mean they would all be expired by then.

Depending on how many days you plan to actually use your APs after she turns 3, it might make more sense to just buy park tickets for the days you will be there. You'll have to do the math based on your projected number of park days to see which makes more sense.

We've had one turn 3 after we had APs. We just went on one more trip with our APs after he turned 3, and we bought him a 10 day ticket. It was slightly frustrating because we were there for 12 days and had to pick 2 days where we didn't enter any parks at all, but the cost of getting him 2 more days was just too high.

There are so many things that can change in the future that it wouldn't even be on my radar right now. Just buy what you need right now, and figure the rest out when you get there. It could be that one of you has a job that doesn't allow you to travel much or something else by then, so do what suits you now and worry about the future when you get there.

I have a 2 year old who will turn 3 before we do our final trip on our current APs. I plan on just buying him a 6-day ticket for that trip, and the rest of us will use our APs. I'm also planning on just doing a base ticket, and only adding the hopper if and when we park hop.

You do not need any tickets until your child turns 3. From 0-3, your kid is absolutely free (even for food). When my son celebrated his 3rd birthday, we brought him into the park and didn't pay for a ticket. He turned 3 that day and he doesn't look 3 anyway - I know the disboard will rip me one, but we did it. After all, we were celebrating 3. And while he isn't a picky eater, he is a small eater. We paid for his meals anyway. We are going to buy him a kids AP in a year or so, when we feel he is more mature and will be riding more things and is taller/more talkative. I just didn't feel the need to get tickets the week of his 3rd birthday. When his 3 1/2 or 4, then yes, we will get tix. Does that help more with your question? It's all on how you feel about it, and how your mature/how much you think your kid will get out of it at that particular age (2-early 3)

I know that the dis folks are probably going to have major issues, but that is how we handled it and how it worked for us for that weekend.
