What is best?:confused3 We have 3 adults and 2 kids (14 and 8) going in April 2008. Should I get shares - are there extra benefits? Or just one AP and use it to get discounts?

I know someone out there knows:goodvibes

There are benefits to both. The shares are trading very cheaply so don't buy them if you want to make money! you can get 10% discount on purchases in any European Disney store too.

The benefits with AP's depend on which one you are going to buy, I don't know much about them but i'm sure many here do.

We went for the Shares, we only visit once a year so did not think that an AP was worth it for us (Me DH & DD 6). But the shares seemed a good deal and have more than paid for themselves in the money we have saved on meals, bookings, gifts and purchases from Disney Shops in the UK. In fact the money we saved on our booking this year almost covered the cost of the shares. We also still own the shares which we can sell back should we no longer want them.

So from a Shareholders point of view, we spent about £120 (we bought the 2000 shares so did not need to pay for club membership), have saved in the region of about £350 to date and are due to visit in December and we still have shares worth about £120.

Salon Mickey is a very refined way to start the morning and it does feel good to know that I own a teeny tiny piece of DLP. Also you can have the benefits of being a Shareholder for 2 years before you need to reapply.

For full details of Shareholder benefits check this link: http://www.eurodisney.com/en/0324.php

maybe someday i will inderstand how it all works but shares totally confuse me.. if ur willing to explain it to me be my guest lol
how'd u get the things for a start?!

Hiya buying shares is really straight forward and very easy, my shares have more than paid for them selves and you always have the benefits.:thumbsup2

But don't you have to buy park tickets as well, being a shareholder? So using the example already given, £120 for shares, plus park tickets/AP's for each person in your party.

That's right shareholder club membership does not entitle you to free entry, although there are previews which you may be able to attend by being a club member :)

I think buying shares is more of a long-term thing if you are planning to holiday at DLRP several times or spend mega ££££ at Disney Store in UK.

Having a shareholders card will give you 15% discount for table service dining and 15% (most items) shopping whereas a Dream AP gives 10% for both counter and table service dining (free aperitif with table) and now gives 20% shopping :dance3: plus free buggy hire and free luggage storage.

My shares have more than paid for themselves, even though we don't stay onsite, but IMO if you had to choose one or other I would go for (at least one Dream) APs. :)

When you're a shareholder you do get to buy your park ticket/APs at 15% discount.

I think it depends with how many people you're entering the share. From what I gathered (mind you I might be totally wrong on this one) it was cheaper to get an AP then shares.

I would only buy 1 AP and use it to get the discount on the other tickets, the hotel (onsite) and everything else. I think i can do this, right, I don't need APs for the whole party?

I like the idea of shares for Salon Mickey - it is just for shareholders and their family, right? And I could take Mum in as well?:confused3

This is making WDW seem straightforward :rotfl2:

I think it also depends on how long your trip is for, and whether you intend going more than once in the year? The cost of a Fantasy Annual Pass per person is only 1 euro more than the cost of a 3-day hopper ticket per person.

This is true, you do still have to but the tickets/AP for the group, but they can be bought with a 15% discount. Also at the end of the day you still have the shares even after the holiday is finished and you can sell them back and recoup most of the intial outlay.

Thinking about it maybe the best way to go about this is buy the 2000 shares and join the Shareholders Club. Book your hotel (10% discount) and buy the required number of APs (15% discount) then use either the AP or Sharholders discount whichever is better during the holiday. On returning from DLP sell the shares, you will lose a little bit of money on fees, but this will probably be less than the money saved. This way you would get the best of both worlds!!!

We'll be spending at least 4 days, possibly 5 in the parks (seems a lot but we really want to pace ourselves, enjoy food etc!) so AP sounds worth it. But I'd love to go in the Salon - I even used to get over-excited going through the "staff only" door when I was a Saturday girl in M&S :rotfl2:

Time to remind DH it's our anniversary next week.....;)
