I am checking into ASMO my first night at Disney on Saturday and we are not going to any parks until we get to the Poly on Monday. My question is do I have to have the actual pass or can I just use the voucher at both resorts? If I have to have the pass, where would be the best place to get it? How long does it usually take to get the pass? After a long drive, I just don't know if I want to wait in line to get a pass just to check into my room.

I asked the same question a couple of months ago.

Here is what I learned and what I did.

According to many on these boards you are supposed to have an activated AP, not the vouchers, when you check in. It seems that this is rarely asked for but it is the official rule.

We statyed at Allstar sports in March. We had an AP rate but were never asked for the activated pass or the voucher during our entire stay. I was prepared to activate the pass whenever they made me.

We did activate our pass at the guest relations booth in Downtown Disney. We went to DD the evening before we were going to a park to activate the passes because we did not want to stand in line at park opening and get in late. It worked perfectly. It took about ten minutes for six passes. I did have to show my drivers license.

Thanks for the info. I think that before we try to check in I will make a stop at DD. I just don't want to be in line all afternoon. Now is it true that you have one year from the first time you use the pass or when you activate it? Already thinking of our next trip and when my year is up, LOL!

i'm 99% sure that its when u activate it. someone want to give mw that last percent?

We activated our annual passes on Easter morning at the international gateway entrance of Epcot at guest services. We were the only ones in line and it was quick and painless.

You have a year from the time that you turn in your voucher and activate your AP. As for checking in with an AP rate, I have heard that, if they ask for your AP, they will allow you to check in with a voucher and show them the AP after you activate the voucher. For most people that will usually be the same day. I'm not sure what would happen if the AP was activated at a later date.

I was wondering if you can activate your AP at the orlando airport. I heard you could purcase an AP at the disney store in the airport but didn't know if you could activate it there.

The only way to activate a pass is to use it at a park to get in.

That hasn't been true in quite a few years. Use of the pass is not required for it to be active. There are two way to get an active AP.

1) Exchange a pre-purchased voucher at any WDW major park ticket window, Guest Relations at the major parks or Guest Relations at DTD. When they hand you the actual AP, it is active. It makes no difference if you don't actually use it to go into a park until next month. Your one year starts from the moment they process the voucher.

2) Purchase an AP anywhere while at WDW. The passes they sell there are active when you purchase them. Again, they do not have to be actually used.
