I'm an AP newbie...hoping you vets can help. I won a slot for Wednesday, and am really excited! Do all AP holders "win"? Just curious as to whether or not it's really a contest, or if they let all AP holders in.

My 2nd question is...for my slot on Wed from 9:00 - 1:00, will the crowds be normal Wednesday crowds, or is it going to be super-packed because of the preview? I'm just trying to find out what to expect, as I have a 3 year old, and am not sure he'd do well with huge crowds/lines.

Would Star Tours be the only super-crowded thing, or will the whole park be packed similar to a weekend?

Thanks!

Yay, so excited!

I can't answer your second question, as I haven't participated in this type of activity before, but I can let you know that you were lucky because no, not all AP holders win :) There are almost a million AP holders according to recent figures, so no, not everybody gets a spot :) I have a Premium AP and entered and didn't get a spot (not disappointed, just entered for the fun of it), so enjoy your special opportunity!

I'll confirm that for you. I'm also an AP holder who entered and no email for me or my husband. :sad1:

Startours is the one ride that makes me want to hurl (and I mean that in a actual sense)--so I don't worry about it. Doesn't it make other people motion sick?

Aww, sorry to hear that you guys weren't among the lucky ones to get in. I got my confirmation a couple of minutes ago and I'm super excited! I got saturday, so I predict it will be decently packed. A normal saturday crowd plus the winners. By the way, I got a reservation for 2 people, but my friends is not going to be able to go, meaning I got a free spot for a passholder, anybody wants to join me?

I won (for a Tuesday), my sister won (on a blackout day) and my friend won (for the Wednesday before it opens). We each did it for the maximum of 6 people. We each have 2-4 people.

On my sis' email, it says that if your AP is blocked out, present the email with your AP and get a free one-day, one-park ticket. YAY!

We got it, I have a party of 4, we won for Tuesday the 31st. :) Not everyone wins tho, too many AP holders, not enough slots for everyone. :)

I just got my winning email for Wed. also. My husband entered and he got his winning email for that same day and time. So I'm guessing that we could ride it twice?! :yay:

theres roughly 1 million annual pass holders i think roughly 5000 win this contest so it looks like alot reading the boards but theres going be more then half the ap holders that cant go.

I won, but my wife did not. However, since we both entered for a party of two, we will both get to ride.

We can't forget to factor in the AP holders that don't even enter into the contest at all. I know plenty of people that have APs and didn't even know that the contest was occurring. Whether that's lack of interest or just simply being oblivious, there's still ALOT of people that I'm sure didn't even enter the contest.

cloudconnected1039 - Exactly! This has been my belief all along. I am 100% certain that not all 1 million AP holders entered this contest - probably not even close to that number.

I think that we here on the DIS may assume that everyone who holds an AP is as excited about all things Disney as we are and that they would make a special trip for Star Tours or any other new ride.

But, really, there are lots of people who have gotten AP's simply because they were going to be at DLR for multiple days in one trip, and decided it would be cost effective to have an AP for discounts on that trip, etc.

Plenty of AP holders live out of state or live out of the country - I have seen some of those people post here. Their work/school schedules may not allow for a trip, or they may not be able to justify the other costs involved in making such a trip.

Also, it's not going to be a big enough deal to some people to ride Star Tours before the general public sees it. If this were going to be the only opportunity to ever ride Star Tours at all, and it was never going to open to the general public, then yes - more people would enter. But as it is, it will open to the public and many people will probably just view it as, "Eh...I'll get on the ride eventually."

Then you would have to actually know about the contest - for those AP holders who merely got their AP's for discounts on one specific DLR trip, they may not keep up with the AP news. They may not bother checking the AP section of the website. They may not be members of the DIS!:scared1:

For example, two of my friends have Premium AP's and live in Orange County (though not in Anaheim), about 20 minutes from Anaheim. They get AP's every year because it is more cost effective for them if they want to maybe go to DLR 3 or 4 days a year for a few hours at a time, to ride TSMM and a few other things. They enjoy DLR a lot - and we always have a great time when they come to join me on my trips. But they are not DLR superfans like we are here on the DIS. Not only would they probably not know about the Star Tours AP preview to begin with (because they don't really follow the AP news and they don't belong to the DIS), but if they did know about it they probably would not take time out of their schedule if it's a work day to come and ride Star Tours.

I have a hunch that there are quite a few people like my friends, who got APs because it was practical but they are not as avid about previews and that kind of thing.

If you entered and selected every time slot, you "won."

I did, but didn't. Luckily I won the ST preview this Friday.

When TSMM had an AP preview I did win tickets to that. As I remember it wasn't extra crowded the day we went. We got to ride 7 times during our time slot.:goodvibes

I'm glad we're on the same page :thumbsup2 Most people that go to the same university as me that have an AP are NOT avid Disney fans or anything of the sort. It's more cost effective for them to have the AP so they can just say "....Hey! Let's go to Disneyland!" after class  They are not the type of people who are going to keep themselves updated on special AP offers or opportunities.

Questions I sent to Disneyland due to 3 of us winning (different dates). In case anyone here knows someone at DLR that can respond :-)

A few of my friends (annual passholders) also won for different dates that are later than mine. I know that only an annual passholder can only win once, but I had a few questions:

1. If I go on my date (as the winner), may I also bring my friends who won on different dates?
2. If I go on my date (as the winner), may I also go as my friends’ guests on those different dates?
3. If my friends come on my date (as my guests), may they also go on the dates they won?

Mainly, I want to make sure that we don’t get disqualified from using our own dates as winners and then going as guests of other winners.

Also cross-posting to other post re: checking email!

I just wanted to point out that is not the only way to be selected. I only selected the evening slots, since my kids are in school during the day, and I did not select the nights that I have school. So while it might up your odds, selecting every single time slot neither excludes or guarantees a win.

How did they notify people of the contest. Did they send out emails to AP holders? We've been APs for several years and have accounts on the AP site. I don't check here or the AP website all that often and didn't hear about the contest until it now.

I saw the contest on the AP website.
