AP room upgrade question

We booked a garden view at BC with the AP rate. In the past we have done the pool/water view but decided that for the amount of time we are in the room we would try the garden view room. If we get there and decide that we really like the pool/water view better, can we upgrade and still get the AP discount once we are at the resort?

I have never had luck changing or upgrading my room and being able to still get the discount that I had at the time--AAA or a Disney promotion.

The response was always "we don't have any rooms with that promotion.". We did try three times--once was for an upgrade from a garden view room at CR to Tower room so we decided not to do it for rack rate.

However, the other two times were resort switches and wanted out of the ones we were at that we paid full price to switch once to the CR (from POR) and once to go to the Poly (from CSR).

It can't hurt to ask but I would not count on it going in.
