OK so I am currently booked w/ an AP room discount. I am wanting to add the DDP to our package. However my tavel agent just told me she would have to cancel our current reservation to rebook w/ the dining plan? I thought you could just add the dining plan. This is what I was told. Also she is saying there are no more standard rooms aval. w/ the AP discount so I'll have to upgrade to a water view. Which I do NOT want to do. Can someone please tell me if she's right? TIA

Yes, I think you have to go to a package to get the dining plan even with an AP. Not sure if she is right about having to upgrade when you already have the room.

Do you currently have a room only reservation (which I suspect,) or do you have a package.
How to tell - what was your deposit $200 (package) or first night's room rate (room only,) and/or what kind of number do you have as a reservation number if it looks sorta like this 491111111111 it's a room only
if it looks sorta like this
6HY31111 it's a package.
And, finally, when is your final payment due (45 days before arrival=package.)
If you have a room only you need to convert to a package to add the dinning, and it may be that your first choice room/view is no longer available to book w/ your AP discount.
If you already have a package booked (which I don't know how you would - since w/ the AP you didn't need tickets and no dinning wanted @ the time you booked) then you could add dinning.
That's my understanding/experience, YMMV.

The other posters are correct. If you have an AP room only discount, you would have to cancel that and rebook a AP package with dining. If there are no more AP room packages left at the standard rate, you would have to upgrade. As stated it becomes a package and needs to be paid in full at the 45 day mark.

She's likely correct. It appears what you have is a room only reservation, and to make it a package in order to add the dining plan it must be cancelled and rebooked as a package. It's a ticketless package, but still a package.

This is only partly correct. I've done this many times in the past! This is how I book ALL my trips. I can never make the 45 day mark, so I always book Room only, call a week before to switch and pay it off.

It's true that technically, in order to add the DDP to the AP room only, the CM has to cancel and rebook. However, there has been maybe one or two times I can remember where the room I originally booked wasn't available...OR as of recently, the code I used had expired. The CM gets in contact with guest relations to hold the room while you rebook as a package and then cancel the original one. In my experience (and like I said i've done this about 8 or 9 times in the past few years) I've never had a problem...however that was dealing directly with CRO and not a travel agent. HTH!

Since you have a AP have you thought about buying a table in wonderland card instead of getting the dining plan. It can be a better deal if you are going to be there for several days have a larger group and if you can use it again another time in the year

I'm interested in hearing the outcome on this.

OP, please report back when you've got it figured out.

I ran into this, booking I stated I had the Ap, got the room only rate, then compared to use the code for free dinning, lost the AP room rate and had to pay rack rate if I wanted to use the free dinning plan.

I kept the AP rate, and just used the AP discount paying for food and goods. This was the largest savings I ever had. It was nice once to try the dinning, but we did not want commitments on ressies for eating our vaca away.

I guess if you have 4 in the room, and a value room, the free dinning is okay,. I am really not sold. If I am paying $75 for a room and it goes up to $130, with two of in the room, there is really a flip to saving. Recent trip we did not eat $35 a day between the two of us. But, I did have garden grocery for drinks and breakfast.

I am interested to hear what happens with this. Historically for us, it has depended on the CM you get on the phone. Sometimes you can get someone who are willing to work with you to get your package with the view you originally had booked, but sometimes you get someone who either doesn't know how or doesn't want to deal with it. It is true that the original reservation has to be cancelled and a new one booked. I will mean you will have to make a second deposit usually and the original deposit will be refunded.

Thanks for all the help. I will be contacting my TA today to see what can be done. I will let you all know how it comes out.
This is what I get for trying out a TA instead of booking it myself.

Sorry to keep you all wondering. I finally had my TA call and add the dining plan to my reservation. She emailed me and said they didn't have the room we wanted and it would cost us $200 more. I was busy (looking at new house) when she emailed so in a panic I said yes. Then she emailed me and said my cc was declined. I ccouldn't understand why. She said they had to book a new package with the room and dining paid in full and then cancel our other reservation and refund that amount that had already been paid. Long story short I don't have $8,000 in my account so I was not able to add the dining plan.
I'm looking at it as a sign that it wasn't ment to be. After the $200 room upgrade I don't think we really would have been saving anything anyway. My DH just likes everything paid for in advance.

Free dining is totally different from adding a dining plan to an annual passholder reservation.

No matter how your CM will work with you, changing a room only reservation to a package is a cancellation and rebooking. Some CMs will try harder to find a comparable room or discount to add. If the same type of room at the same discount is still available, no problem. It's when the resort, room type, discount or dates you wanted are not available at the time you change the reservation that you may have problems recreating exactly the situation you previously had.

I Don't understand, I JUST called the other day and switched my Room only to a package with dining, like usual, there were two things going against me: (1) the code in which I booked the room (a RO annual pass holder discount) had expired and (2) The room (GV grand floridian) was booked. Without hesitation the CM explained he had to speak to Guest relations to move everything over and that he would be right back. 5 minutes later, he came back, we were ready to go. As I said in a previous post, I do this all the time when I go to Disney because I pay cash and need to save up for the trip, so I book the RO to hold the room and switch over when I have saved.

It's not the end of the world, and I don't mean to add fuel to the fire because no matter what, its Disney and with or without a dining plan you are going to have a FABULOUS time :goodvibes I just don't like the lack of effort on your TA part. Maybe they're restricted because of the system TA's use :confused3
