AP room only discount - how deep?

Staying at the Contemporary in late April for 4 nights, trying to figure out if I'll be renewing my AP. Renewal will be about $200 more that a 4-day base pass. Rack rate on our room is $315 and we have a AAA 10% but obviously I'm hoping to do much better than that.

I'm just wondering, how much off rack rate might I expect on a AP room only discount in late April? I know this varies, but any educated guesses would be appreciated!

I think it is harder to guess since the new daily pricing has taken effect.
Do not renew an AP hoping for a better room discount. If you get one, that is just icing on the cake. But don't make that a leading factor in purchasing or renewing an AP.

I agree with PP. Don't renew your AP in the hopes of getting a discount. Renew if you are planning several trips, totalling more than 10-11 days, as that is typically the break even point between standard tickets and AP's. With Easter in March next year, it's kind of hard to tell at this point what kind, if any, discounts will be offered in April. In the past, AAA discounts have run around 10-20% and AP discounts have run around 30-40%, depending on resort and season. So if you are saving $30 now, you might save another $30 or so IF the AP discount comes out.

My experience has been that I've been able to switch from AAA to AP discount about 50% of the time. The other 50% I've had to stay with the AAA rate.

Thanks for the imput! My old pass expires mid-March, so I shouldn't have to renew before discounts come out. Just curious mostly. Last year we got a great deal with the AP room only discount, and it was for 8 nights, so in our case it was definately worth the cost of the AP, over 7 day hoppers. This time I'll just wait and see. No definate plans to return, but then again last year I said I was not coming back for awhile, but then decided to sneak in one more quick trip before my 2yr old turns 3!

fla4fun, thanks for the percentages, I know it is all a guess but that is exactly what I was looking for.

Should I try to apply AAA rate to my room for January 1st and then if AP rate comes out for that rate, switch it over?

Thanks

Definitely try for any discounts! I always try for an AP rate first, then go for the AAA rate if no APs. Saving any $$$ is always good!!

And yes, you can always get rates switched once you have a reservation!

HTH!!! :goodvibes

Have the AP rules concerning booking rooms changed? Is it true that you can only book 1 room? I usually book 2 rooms for myself and kids. I read this somewhere but can't seem to find it on the AP site.
