Is the purchase of an AP the best way to go to get discounted rates?

Not always. You cannot assume that you will get an AP rate just because you have an AP. There are times that only certian resorts are availible. They limit the amount of rooms to be discounted & they also do not always have AP discounted rooms....
I would not purchase an AP with the hopes of getting a cheaper room.. it is just an extra perk for the AP.. only get the AP if you know you will use it enough to get your money out of it... not for the discounted rooms...

Disney does have AAA discounts as well as "post card" rates that some seem to get. With any discounted room that they offer, they all fall into that catagory of "limited amount of rooms"...
