AP rate with Child's AP???

I think it is mute anyway. I have never been asked for any AP when checking in on an AP rate. I have never been asked for the postcard when checking in on an postcard rate. And before anyone says that WDW has it in the system about you having an AP that just wasn't true in my case. I had the vouchers, not the real AP, so WDW had no idea who I was. I hadn't activated it yet and they had no info on me to know I had an AP. I think the CM just sees the words AP holder discount on the reservation and goes with that. On my reservation there was the words AP passholder rate but that is only because I called CRO and got an AP rate. CRO has no idea who has APs and who does not. There are many folks that make the reservation before even purchasing the AP or voucher. So the hotel CM only goes by what CRO puts in the computer. I've never been questioned about my discounts when checking in. As far as being of legal age to reserve a room you can put anyone you want on the reservation along with someone of legal age. One year they had myself and my 3 y/o DD down on the reservation. I don't know why they did this but she was on it. You can put yourself and the passholder's name down on the same reservation. When you check in, IF they even ask for the AP, then the holder will be on the paperwork but you are paying for the room. An AP holder can reserve 3 rooms at a time. There are many times that they are getting the room for family and friends. As long as the AP holder is there at check in then the other rooms can be put on whomevers credit card that they want. I personally just called CRO and asked this and they said "NO PROBLEM. As long as the passholder is with you at check in you can use it. It doesn't matter if it is a child or adult. Just make sure there is an adult ALSO on the reservation and you are all set." Now I haven't tried this yet as we all have APs but my AP expires after our next trip in May. My DD's child AP doesn't expire until next October. So I decide to go on another trip then I will certainly use her AP to get a good rate if I don't renew mine. I highly doubt that Disney is going to quibble about using a childs AP, especially when every offer I have seen never says it is for ADULT AP holders only, just AP holders.

I had thought about trying this for my upcoming trip.

I'm getting everyone 4 day hoppers and the difference between buying me the ap and DH & 2 DD's hoppers compared to me, DH & 1 DD hoppers and 1 child's ap was about $15.

IMO it wasn't worth saving for the thought of being told "no" at check in.

I would work the numbers for both ways to be sure it would be worth it.

You don't have to give your name when buying the vouchers? We did, because we used our DC club card (and once they gave us the discount, they had all the info)..and when we got to the desk, I asked why she didn't ask for my name..she said it came up in the computer we had vouchers. Somehow, they knew : )

When I use a postcard, I have to give them the code number..unique to me. That is on the computer when I check in..so unless I had a different name..we always match. No need to show the postcard. We did have to show it when my daughter had the card, and she didn't make the ressie (although she was listed in the room).

I did get a room for another diser and friend (Hi Julie!), and I had to pay for it..they said no to her using her card, even though several on this board had said she could pay on her card. The advantage though, was, if I wasn't goign to be around when she checked in..no problem...she was already checked in.

No we did not give names when buying vouchers. They didn't ask who they were for or anything. My mom bought them on her credit card and I paid her back. That is also why people with vouchers do not get a Mickey Monitor. They do not have the info in the system until you activate it. After activation they have the nfo in the computers. As far as using another CC at check in we do it all the time. I make the reservations in my name but use my mom's credit card at check in. No one has ever said anything about it. Last time we even changed the CCs halfway through so my mom paid for the first half and me the second. We've never had a problem doing this either. When we used a postcard once, the reservation was in my name but the postcard came in my mom's. At check in they didn't ask for anything either.

I have never gotten one : (

LIke I said, I used my Disney Club card to buy the vouchers and so they had my name. I have no idea why they didn't ask to see yours..maybe the CM overlooked it. You mentioned your mom bought "them" (AP's) on her credit card. Di dshe have one also? Just thinking outloud, about why they would let her use the CC on part of the ressie...maybe because the room was in both names..and you both had AP's?

No idea, why they tell us that if you are in the system with an AP, you don't need to show it. I guess for you, you didn't need to show and you weren't in the system. I thought you actually either had to have the card (not voucher)..or show the voucher and come back during your stay with a card to get the discount. If you only had a voucher and no ap card, had you already asked if that's all you needed to check in?

I really have no idea either. My mom's name was not on that reservation. If you are not getting the Mickey Monitor then you should call the passholder number and find out where it is. I have also heard you need to actual AP and not the voucher but everyone I've read about used vouchers or nothing at all and it was fine. Who know what goes on in the minds of those WDW CMs! LOL!

Same thing here, only we didn't even have the vouchers. We had waited too late to order them before we left, so we just purchased them by phone to pick up when we arrived. We checked in before we got the AP's.

Also, I'm pretty sure the CM who checked us in didn't know we had AP's because she asked if we'd like to purchase park passes while we were checking in.

We weren't asked to show the AP's on our next visit either.

We bought vouchers last month, using my DC card for the discount, and we were not asked to give our names. I know that if anyone, the only name they'd have is mine listing under the DC, especially since the other 2 people I got the APs for don't have the same last name as me. Also, when we checked in using our AP discount on 2 trips this year, we weren't asked to show the APs and were told once that they were in the computer and the other time the CM who was 'earning his ears' asked if we wanted park passes so it seems he had no idea we had APs.

Every time we check in the CM asks if we need park passes. Even with the reservation under an AP discount. I thought they just asked in case someone in your party needed passes.

We've never been asked for the SP when checking into an AP-discounted room.

Having said that, I wouldn't try to use a child's AP to get the reservation. To me, the $$ difference isn't worth the hassle if I get a CM that doesn't want to do it.

IMO this entire thread must be one of the reasons Disney has offered less rooms with AP discounts lately. I am against the practice of using a childs AP to get a room discount but it is Disney's fault that this unspoken exception exsists. A Disney vacation is very expensive and I can understand how people use this to save money, but I ask if these same people would like the idea of someone doing this to a business they own? Look in the mirror and tell me if it is worth the potential agravation ??

Actually, I think there are fewer AP discounts because so many people have started buying one per family and using them as "discount cards". (I know it's not against the rules to do that :) ) The AP discount was meant to encourage frequent visitors. I also believe that they are going to eventually make the system similar to the FL resident pass where you have to give the number on the back of your pass to actually get the discount at the time of booking.

If they required you to give the number on the back of the pass, wouldn't that eliminate lots of valid AP holders from getting the discount? What I mean is that we bought APs last December for our Dec/Jan trip since we would be in the parks for 9 days. After deciding to buy the APs, we also planned trips for Feb and Oct, and used the AP rate for the Feb trip. Though we knew we'd be getting APs, we decided not to get vouchers but just buy the activated passes at the MCO Disney Store. By the time we got the APs, we had already booked 2 trips using the AP rate. If we had to tell them a number on the back, there's no way we could have gotten the discount, which would have most likely cancelled our Feb trip. So aren't they better off letting people book with the AP rate if it means booking more trips, rather than saying that you have to have the AP in hand at the time of booking?

I've never had to do that.

Maybe. But I really think they should do something that would reward frequent visitors or those vacationers that take longer trips, rather than those that buy one child's AP to use as a discount card. :D

When do FL residents have to do that??

That's just my point though, how does making a person actually have the AP before they can book reward those who make frequent or longer trips? Like I said, I bought my AP at the airport Disney Store when I arrived in Orlando on 12/27/02. By the time I actually was in possession of my AP I had already booked 2 trips on the AP rate, that stay (12/27-1/4) and a February trip (2/13-2/20). If I wasn't able to get an AP rate for both (and for the first trip I could only get it for 1/1-1/4 since the 1st half of the stay was holiday rates) trips I would not have booked 2. Therefore, we would not have made a trip this February and consequently this October. We didn't use an AP rate for the Oct trip, but we used the come back rate that was given to us during our Feb trip. If there was no Feb trip, then no Oct trip, since we only went back because we got great rates and already had park admission with the APs. So if Disney decided that you had to have the AP before you could book rooms with an AP code rate, they would have lost out on a lot of money since I would have only made that trip last Dec, not 2 more within the year.
