We were annual passholders for many years. We didn't go much last year so we let our passes expire. We are missing DL again and want to get them again. A couple questions--they expired in March, if we renew them are they renewed from today or from March? We did have deluxe passes and want to downgrade to the Southern California pass (not the cheapest one), anything I should know about this? I heard from a friend who bought tickets and went to DL that you can buy tickets on any day, then upgrade those tickets after you get in the park. Therefore, you can go on a blackout date and then get the passes. DL castmember told her it was not a very known secret. I wonder if that would work since our passes just ran out a couple months ago.

Thanks for the help.

Renewing passes you renew from the date they expired and they're good for a year from the expiration date. They will allow you to renew after the pass expires, but I highly doubt they will let you renew this late after they expired. Also you would get the dollar amount off the current price, not the renewal amount before the price increase. This happened to my sister, they changed the price between when she got her letter and when she renewed. The paper says prices subject to change. So they gave her the $20 off the new price not the old price.

You buy any ticket and then use that to uprade to an AP. I think it works on blockout dates, but I haven't tried it. However you only get the value you paid for the ticket so if you have a discounted ticket, they apply the discounted purchase price to the cost. They also sell blockout day tickets for $20 (at least that was the price last I heard) you can buy a ticket on a blockout date so you may still go.

The day you upgrade isn't blocked, so you're okay that day! But like the above poster said you won't be able to renew at this date you'd have to re-purchase(same as we just did! LOL)

The blackout tickets were $30/day when we were just there last week according to the CM at the ticket window, but the day of purchase is good for entry whichever pass you choose.

Yes you can buy a ticket and then upgrade anywhere within your usage window (so on the last day of use of a 5 day pass you could change over to an AP)...here's the kicker, besides the fact that they only apply your actual price instead of value....you MUST upgrade to an AP that costs MORE than the cost of your entry ticket...so you could NOT buy a 5 day and turn around and apply toward the cheapy SoCal pass that I think cost less. Frankly, there still are a ton of blackout dates on the SoCal regular pass.

Another thing to note is that your pass is backdated to the first day of the ticket you are using- Ie if you have a 3 day hopper and you upgrade it on the last day of its use- your AP is dated to expire the first day you used your hopper- ie if you use your hopper on Mon/Tue/Wed and upgrade on Wed the AP will Expire on Mondays date next year

But as others said youd have to just rebuy- The discount is a) only valid until the last day of use (least for PAPs- I asked) and b) you dont get a discount when you downgrade

Thanks for all the input. We are going to buy just the regular pass to get in (so we can get in on a blackout date) and then apply it to the SoCal pass. We only go on Sundays and never on holidays or during the summer so I think the SoCal pass that has less blackout dates will be just fine.

I'm happy my friend was right and we basically get one blackout date "free." I think we'll go right before school is back in session.
