AP question

If I buy an AP, vailid for one year.

If I buy : Aug. 1, 2012, (valid from Aug.1.2012 to Aug.1.2013) and use it once during Aug.2012 ,

then I book another trip for July30.2013 for 14days, would I get AP rates for my entire stay of 14 days., which runs over the expiry of my AP??

Trying to see if an AP is worth if for one trip or not...

and a side note, are the AP rules same as disney AP rules.??
I have never looked into getting an AP until reading these universal threads.

You would be able to use it the 2nd time for the hotel discount but then not in the parks. So you would be buying tickets anyway. You would be better off getting the AP renewed so you can gain entry to the parks as well as use it for food and shopping discounts.
