We have a package booked for August. When we arrive I plan on upgrading our tickets to AP's. If a discount is available for the room would I be able to apply the discount even though I will not have the AP until after we arrive? Hope this is not to confusing!

As I understand it...
You would have to book the AP rate before arrival. You can get your annual pass after you check in and go back to the front desk later that day. (I have done this a number of times)
I don't think you'll find an AP discount available at the time of check-in.

Actually that is what I wanted to do. Book the AP rate prior to arrival. Just wanted to make sure that I would be able to come back and show the AP after checking in and upgrading tickets to AP's.

Since you have a package booked you wouldn't be able to also use an ap discount as well. You would need to check for an AP discount before going and switch to that if it works out better. You can still choose to add the dining plan onto your trip as a passholder. I've never been asked to show my AP at check in but if they do ask you should be able to go back to the front desk on the day of check in after you purchase your ticket to prove you have it, if you don't they switch you to rack rate.

Great Thanks.... Is there any where that I could check on what AP discounts are available?

Right now there are AP rates out only through 3/8/12. You can check this board -- at the top there is a discounts thread and there are usually people talking about AP discounts. Also, Mary Waring at www.mousesavers.com keeps track of these things and includes AP discount availability on her website.

If you want to switch to an AP rate room, your current reservation would be cancelled and a "room only" reservation would be booked. AP holders are also allowed to add a dining plan to their reservation without tickets, as long as you are booked on an AP rate.

So, ideally, if an AP rate comes out, make that reservation, cancel the old package and just buy an AP when you get there. You can usually apply your ld deposit to a new reservation, even if you switch from a package to a room only. No need to buy tickets in advance.

Actually, if you want to book an AP ticketless package (AP rate and dining), you don't have to cancel a previously booked package. It's just a modification of your current reservation. No problem.

If you do change from a package to a room only (no dining), you do have to rebook and then cancel, and your deposit from one cannot easily be applied (if at all) to the other. Deposits can only transfer from a package to a package (a modification) or from a room only to a room only (again a modification). From package to room only or vice versa, the initial deposit is refunded and a new deposit required.

Since you have a package booked you wouldn't be able to also use an ap discount as well.

Not true. See above. The discount will be on the room portion of the package only; you will have to pay the full price for the dining plan. If, however, your package was booked with a discount like free dining, you will have to choose which discount works better for your family; you cannot use two discounts.

If OP books an AP ticketless package then she won't have tickets with her package in order to upgrade them. Might as well either get the AP voucher ahead of time (or to save a few bucks, order tickets from Undercover Tourist to upgrade on arrival as described). The tickets won't be part of the package if it's an AP rate.
