AP Photopass vs Memory Maker

Hmmm....For those people who show up with regular tickets and upgrade to APs while at Disney, will they receive Photopass for the entire trip or will they have to wait their 3 days to get the photopass services like they would if it were Memory Maker?

I already purchased a Memory Maker for trip at end of month, BUT have to renew AP on first day there, wonder how that is going to be handled?

I'm wondering that as well - I am fine with the Gold blackout dates but already purchased a memory maker. that said we are going to get 3 trips out of these APs, so it will still save us money in terms of not having to buy 2 more memory makers. I though would kind of like a refund on the one I already bought that I apparently won't need.

Am I viewing this wrong? Photopass is the service of photos and ride photos/videos. Memory Maker is just a package deal to download your images. You can get your photopass photos and videos without memory maker if you pay so this service should just be downloading your media with no additional fee.

I honestly think confusion is coming from terminology and it took me awhile to find the actual description on the Disney site.

Previously, PhotoPass or PhotoPass plus (the plus gave you ride pics, etc) enabled you to download all your pictures. Then they renamed it to Memory Maker.

Now, anyone can either purchase MemoryMaker to download all the pictures OR they can use the PhotoPass photographers and buy pictures individually.

My confusion of MemoryMaker vs AP with PhotoPass stemmed in part from suspicion of Disney "giving" something away with the APs. In reading the Disney Terms site (scroll down to Memory Maker and "Disney PhotoPass Benefit for Select Annual Passes"), the sound almost identical except AP with PP has a 365 expiration term and no 3 day wait period like the memory maker. Unless I'm missing something (which seems possible because it sounds too good to be true), the AP with PP is a great deal for those of us who usually buy MemoryMaker: we have 3 trips planned (nov 2015, Jan 2016, and Oct 2016) on our AP vouchers (going to activate next month) and won't have to buy MemoryMaker for the 2nd two trips. Of course I already bought it for Nov 2015 and have to figure out what to do/how to get a refund.

I don't disagree with suspicion but universal is making AP very worth getting and disney hasn't really made it special. Pete mentioned this in a recently dis unplugged also. I think this is a turn where disney is gonig to start having more value for things you buy into like AP, DVC, etc....

This sounds like an included every day memory maker to me.. but also concur it's confusing as photopass has had a few meanings..

It's immediate. The 3-day advance purchase is simply a condition of the special pricing on Memory Maker. Someone can pay more for MM and have it start immediately if they want to.

Has anyone who has already used a new pass confirmed if there are any differences between MM and PP DD? So far, I've seen first hand reports that ride photos are included.

Questions remaining (mixed information on this -- no confirmation):
  1. Borders included?
  2. Stock photos included?
  3. Friends & Family photos included?

I would assume it's yes, no, yes, because you don't need Memory Maker to add borders on your pictures or to purchase Friends and Family members' pictures. Stock photos though appear to be a bonus feature of Memory Maker, although you can purchase them from the PhotoPass site.

I would really like to know about #3 myself. Will F and F magic band scanning still allow the photos to be downloaded for free by the AP holder?

I called ticketing and explained that I purchases MM but with the new AP's I wont need it. They gave me a refund on MM. No questions asked. Call ticketing and press option 5.

Question. When u download the pics are they the full resolution file so they can be edited by myself? I assume they will be jpg and not raw. I can care less about the borders and such I just want raw pics I can touch up myself.

Yes, I did not do any editing at all before I downloaded them. After downloading them, I transferred them to my iPad and using various apps, I edited, added borders, and created digital scrapbook pages and then made books through shutterfly.

My sister arrived at WDW yesterday, got Platinum APs for her whole family. She's been at MK for 1.5 days now, and no ride photos have shown up in her account, except for Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin (and does that even count, as you get those photos regardless of whether or not you have photo entitlements? Or are the monitors after the ride to email yourself the pics gone now?).

Our extended family all shared MM last year, and from the looks of it thus far, this isn't working the same way. Or if it's supposed to work the same way, there's glitches at this point. My nephew had his band scanned for some pics in front of the castle, and those haven't shown up in my sister's account. He doesn't have his own account, being young, so I would have expected that his mom could see those pics.

Gotta love the phenomenon of getting different answers with different cast members... I just did that and was told that since I have not upgraded our vouchers yet, that they cannot process the refund over the phone but I need to do it at the guest relations window when we redeem the vouchers. I guess I'll just do it when we get to the parks next month.

I just got off the phone with Disney. I was told that if I upgrade just my AP to the Platinum that the only photos that I could download for free are those that are scanned with MY band. No other members in your party or MDE account. Wondering if I should call back and ask another CM the same question to see if it's the same answer.

I just posted on another thread that I was told by 2 CM's- ticketing and passholder- that the person with the AP w?PP will be the one that has to be in the photos. Everyone on the friends and family list can see all the pics on the MDE act or PP site but only those scanned by the MB that has the PP wil be able to be downloaded for free.

I asked if we want a pic of just the kids would it be free and was told to have the AP w/ PP person scan their band and that it should work. Same thing with character meets. Rides, if single rider, on that 1 person.

I asked what about when DH ( he is next up for a pass renewal)is working and meets us in park later, to see if we can bring the band in to scan for pics and was told that it wont work until he has scanned entry into park.

I will be waiting to see what really happens from those trying all these things.

So if I upgrade just my pass to the Platinum, I would get the PP downloads for free for any picture that was scanned with my band? If dh carried my extra magic band, he could have them scan that one on the rare occasions if we were split up and he got a pic? In theory, that sounds like all of our pictures would then be under my name/account. Would that work?

Well that's an interesting question. I have a bunch of spare magic bands assigned to me as well.

Anyone know about a renewal??? I renewed my passes back in August will I participate in the new features?

EDIT Just got my answer. I would need to upgrade to the current pricing since I renewed at the old price. With the DVC discount the Platinum renewal is $549. + tax which is about $100 more than what I paid. But I could just upgrade one pass the CM said I wouldn't need to do all 5

Actually, "it depends" -- if the renewal AP was activated or not (certificate):
Based on multiple first hand confirmations from people who have gotten APS and CMs who have issued APs since Tuesday:
  1. Q: Can you upgrade current (activated) AP to new Gold, Platinum, or Platinum Plus?
A: Yes, you pay the difference between the previous AP Old Price (regardless of what you actually paid) and the New Price for the new AP. The result is the difference plus tax - equal to Increase column under DVC in chart below.
  2. Q: Can you upgrade unactivated AP Certificate to new Gold, Platinum, Platinum Plus?
A: Yes - Ticketing is no longer issuing old APs, so will automatically issue you a new AP (with PP DD) at no cost according to this:
    • Seasonal Pass > Silver AP
    • AP > Platinum AP
    • PAP > Platinum Plus AP

According to the Ticketing CM that's not true because my AP Renewal Certificate has not been activated yet. I told the CM and I was told I needed to upgrade the AP to the current pricing in order to receive the PP365 download
