Is it worth buying 1 AP for Universal just for the hotel discount the rest of the tickets would be regular tickets)? Where is the best place to buy them? ( don't see them on underground tourist site) I see that there are 3 types do you need a special type to get the discount? I know the cheaper one has blackout dates where would I find those would hate to purchase 1 and have it fall on my blackout day! I am guessing you need to purchase the AP first before booking the hotel otherwise how would they know you had an AP pass. Assuming there is a special code on your pass that you need to have).

To find about the blockout dates why not look on universal's site ?

You can get the discount with the cheapest AP (power pass)

You don't need to have the AP to book an aph rate (enter APH as a promotions code on the hotels only booking form)
You might be requested to show an active AP upon check in or during your stay

You can also book at the seasonnal rate and the change into aph rates once they're released
Aph rates usually are realeased 3 to 4 months in aevance
Currently aph rates are available until the first week of june

If there is an AP rate and if the math works out, yes, it CAN be worth it.

We tend to have longer trips, and the "stay more save more" rate tends to be better than the AP rate. But especially when comparing the Seasonal rate to APH the AP rate can be worth it. Gotta do the math on your trip, though!

Enter APH into the code field. If there's an AP rate for your dates on the day you're looking, it will show that. If it doesn't show a difference, there's no AP rate for your dates on the day you're looking. Keep checking. Don't buy the AP until you know there's an AP rate, if the rate is the only reason you're getting the AP.

When you check in, if you don't have the AP in hand, just ask when you need to show it to them. They'll let you know.
