We are getting AP's for the first time this year. Do most of you use AP's or PAPs? We don't go to the water parks or Pleasure Island very often, but of course, I wonder if we would want to if we have AP's and go to DW more often. Is it that expensive to occasionally pay for water parks or Disney Quest?

The first year we got PAP's and decided they weren't worth the extra money for our family as we didn't use the water parks or PI. So, we've been buying AP's for the last two years. With the AP's you get discounts on the water parks and PI, so for the occasional visit, it isn't that bad.

for the difference in price you can visit the water park and pay
the admission and get a few dollars off with your AP many times!

we might go once to the water parks, but with the nice pools
and wet rides we rarely do.

i say AP only and pocket the difference, it is alot!

I heard if you changed your mind in mid year they would upgrade your pass and only charge you for the remainder of the year.

Not anymore: http://allearsnet.com/pl/apass.htm

What if I decide I want to change to a PAP after I already used my AP?

You can do this. It will be handled just like any other pass upgrade. There was a time that you could upgrade your AP to a PAP simply by paying the prorated difference on the remaining time of your AP. (Example: a $120 cost difference translates to $12 per month. If you had 3 months to run on your AP it would have cost you $36 to upgrade to a PAP that would expire when your old AP did.) But there have been reports that Disney will no longer pro-rate an AP for this. If you want to upgrade an AP to a PAP now you will be charged the entire price difference ($120 in the example) for whatever time you have remaining on the AP.

We LOVE water parks and DisneyQuest, so we always opt for the PAP!:earsgirl:

We don't go to the Water Parks so it's just the APs for us. My kids have fun in the pools at the resorts and we just go to the waterpark here in Denver.
