AP or PAP?

We are thinking about our next renewal (which isn't till December, but all the talk about renewing APs with the price increase got me thinking). Which do you prefer? Why did you choose the one over the other?

(We've been purchasing the PAP because we DO go to Disney Quest and the water parks occasionally, but the bulk of our experience is theme park related. For instance, we went to DQ, TL, and BB once each this past year. We've been to the theme parks oodles of times.)

I'm thinking about downgrading to an AP when we renew on our DVC discount in December. Can we do that on a renewal?

You are right on the borderline. I like the flexibility even if I could save a few $ by staying with an AP. I have younger children so DQ is a big draw.

I do not know about the renewal issue and changing from PAP to AP. If they will not let you get the renewal price then the PAP would be a better deal

I'm pretty sure they will let you downgrade to a regular AP. I originally had a PAP. Since I rarely if ever visit the Water Parks or Disney Quest I decided it wasn't worth the extra cost per year to purchase the PAP. You would have to figure out what the additional admission costs for the Water parks & Disney Quest are to determine if it is worth purchasing the PAP's instead. Based on you visiting each of them at least 1 time per year you are not near the break even point of purchaing the PAP. Current AP holder prices for a 1 day Water Park or Disney Quest ticket are $36 per adult/$30 per child. So that is 5 one day admissions to TL, BB or DQ per adult or child before it pays to go with the PAP.

If you have a PAP, you can get a renewal AP at DVC discount price and vice versa. Going three times a year to DQ or water parks is, as noted above, borderline to go with a PAP, since you can get $4 off adult and $3 off child price for them just by having the AP or DVC member card.

Being newbies last year we purchased the PAP prior to our 7 n at OKW last Aug. We used it for DQ, TL and BB - one time each. Our other trips down since then have been too short and / or too cold for water parks (4 n in January and only 3 n just a couple of weeks ago). DQ was interesting to see but now that we've seen it we're all set and don't feel the need to go back. We have no other trips planned at the moment so we're going to let them expire so they don't sit unused...but the next time around we will just do the reg. AP (or maybe the 10 day non-expiring) and will just pay for the water parks as we go. I think the PAP is really best if you can do several longer trips and know you will have the time to go to every park on each visit.

DW and I got PAPs for our first DVC trip (no kids). We figured we'd at least use it for several admissions to Adventurers Club, and maybe one or two to DQ (not terribly interested in the water parks). However, we only made it in to AC once that trip.

When we went again in December with the kids, we got the kids regular APs. DW and I got into the AC one more time, and still no DQ. So that's only two admissions on the PAP - wasn't worth it for us, and with AC closing its even less worth it. I renewed us as regular APs. If we go somewhere else, we'll pay the money.
