AP -- Magic Your Way Conflict?

I'm going in March and expect to use the "Magic Your Way" (MYW) tickets with meals. Since Disney says that if you use this program that everyone in your party must use it... Does this mean that trying for AP rates won't work since the AP holder would have to also buy the MYW tickets?

Isn't the meal plan part of a package, and not available to "room only" guests? If so, then AP room rates would not apply.

Good question. My understanding is that everyone staying in the room that you booked with the package has to buy the meal option. We often meet and dine with extended family who have APs, but we aren't staying in the same room. I thought we could still buy a package with the meals and meet up with his family to dine. He just would pay for his meal separately. We would probably have to have split checks.

Now if you are staying in the same room as an AP holder that is more complicated. I don't think you can get the dining option if you are staying on AP rates anyway. If you are booking a non-AP package, there's a possibility is that the AP holder could buy a 1 day/1 park ticket, but get meals for as many nights as you are staying in the room. That much I do know. You need to buy the dining option for as many nights as you are staying in the room. They do make it sound like you can stay buy the MYW park tickets for as many days as you like. We are thinking of buying a 10-day MYW no-expire ticket and use it over two trips. We are wondering how we can get the dining for the second trip if we don't need new MYW tickets. Buying a one-day/one-park ticket is the only thing we can think of.

Can an AP purchase two connected rooms? If so, for a party of five... consider the AP in room 1 and the rest of the family in room 2. Room 2 guests get he Magic Your Way dining option while the Room 1 guest opts out. Will Disney let you do this? Is Disney's participation requirement per room or per party? :jumping4: :jumping4: :jumping4:

Thanks.

When the dining option is purchased it must be a package. Package rooms will not be discounted.

What you suggest may work. The AP "room only" ressie will have no-one in it using the ticket or dining package, the connecting room would be booked through Disney Travel and be a Package Room. I'd call Disney and ask, but you should be able to request connecting rooms, but I doubt they'd be guaranteed. In any event, they should be able to place you conveniently nearby.

A good AP room only rate will save you way more than any meal plan, IMO. Sure it's nice to have meals taken care of, but to get that you'll need to get a package rate. Given how often we're planning on being at WDW this year (minimum 20 park days), we're very glad to have the APs and the AP rates.

Now, if there were a really good package deal, like the 7 for 5 deal this year or the 7 for 4 deal the year before (we got that one, oh yeah!), and you tack on the meal plan to that, then it might be a better deal.

I am sure discounted packages will be released as they have in the past.

I have to agree. I haven't been a compulsive Disney trip planner long but looking on Mousesavers it looks like every time a non-AP room-only discount came out that there was an equivalent package discount that discounted the room portion of the package.

With the MYW tickets and meal plan I think that you have to start looking at total trip cost instead of just the room cost in order to decide if you are getting a deal.

Since thw MYW doesn't go into effect until after 1/2/2005, they can't just retroactively increase the room rate if you are adding dining to an already good rate... And they can't charge you more for the MYW (would not be legal). We'll fine out shortly...

If what I have been reading is correct, jstehman, You wont be able to GET the dining at all if you have an AP rate.

The MYW dining can only be added to Travel Company Packages, not CRO room only. Since AP rates are CRO room only-it wont be an option for you at all.

You would have to convert to a Travel Company Package if you wanted dining, and there are NO AP rates in Travel Company.

While they can't increase the rate of a room you already booked, you can't add dining to an annual pass rate room. In the future there may be discounts from time to time on the room/dining/MYW compared with the same package on other dates.

While it is technically disallowed, the requirement of all persons to purchase MYW encourages a single annual passholder to stay in a room with his family unannounced.

Next trip: Jan 1-7, Pop Century, with AP

You are correct Petchie. You will not be able to add dining to a discounted CRO reservation.

If you want the dining package you will have to book a WDTC package, which will not be discounted.

I think that this remains to be seen - Disney would make many people upset if they offered room and package discounts to the public, but then told them that if they wanted to add dining that they would need to pay full price for the room? Doesn't make sense to me.

You will have to decide if it is a better deal to get a discounted room or to add a dining package.
