AP in Either Spouse's Name?

If our room is booked in my husband's name (and our Disney account associated with that name), does it matter which ticket I upgrade to an AP to get the room discount? In other words, if it's my ticket that we upgrade, will they apply the AP discount to our room rate, or must he be the one to upgrade his ticket?
