AP ID enforcement for parking

Going into epcot today I was asked for ID to match my AP for parking. Didn't have it ready so I held up the line a bit. Worse my 8 year old was riding with my sister in their car and they wouldn't accept her AP for free parking because she is a child. They had to pay. Guess I'll send one of my other 4 kids, who are all over 13, with them tomorrow.
Just a fyi.

Another poster reported this a week or so ago. Seems they are making sure the AP holder is in the car.

When we were down at the end of may they id'd me multiple times for AP, I was so not expecting that lol they must have been having issues and are starting to check

This part doesn't seem correct and I would have probably gone to guest services about it. A child AP, still has the benefit of Free Parking so if the child was present then the AP Privelage of free parking should have been given. I don't know many 8 year olds or kids in general that would have ID to show.

Seems like a mistake to me!

A school ID would work. I have no problem with Disney making sure they are giving a benefit to someone who is actually entitled to it. I guess to my way of thinking if you want to take advantage of a benefit, you should be able to prove you are entitled to it.

Sure ... given that child has a school ID or has the school ID on them.

my 8 year old has an AP, does not have any ID so even though we pay for the AP and the benefit of that AP is free parking ... she is not entitled to it because she doesn't have ID?

The CM at the parking lot was mistaken.

Take the child with the AP and the parking receipt to Guest Relations
and ask that it be straightened out.

Children under 18 yrs. do not need ID.

I would bring my parking ticket to guest services and get reimbursed. They should not be charging parking for a "child" AP. they cost the same amount as adult AP's for goodness sakes!

This could be like the merchandise discount...technically, you have to present a photo ID to get the photo discount.

I don't have an AP benefits guide handy to see if it has the same requirement. The web site doesn't enumerate all the details.

I do not see anything in fine print about parking and ID required. There is blub about 14 and younger need to be with someone older to get into parks, etc. Under merc. there is blub about id required.

Are you looking at the web site, or the pocket guide? I know that's on the web site, but the web site actually says to refer to the guide for details.

the lil green book I got when I renewed my AP. It has Walt Disney Passholder 2013 on front cover and is lie a 4x6 size booklet

My 11 year old had serious issues with the finger scan at every park on our trip earlier this month. They never once asked him for an id but they did ask him a question each time to get him in the park. I'm not sure if that's normal for AP's or not because we just bought AP's on this trip.

Some of his questions were -

What town do you live in? What is your birthday and how old are you?

OK, then it would seem that a photo ID should not be required.

There HAS been a lot of debate about whether a child's AP qualifies for free parking though. The current web site does not make a distinction. And when we got ours a couple weeks ago, they all have the orange "good for parking" stripe on them, including my 8 year olds. I think the black stripe ones are only given to seasonal/weekday passholders. They also didn't put the expiration date on them.

Then again, they can change the rules too...they are probably still trying to figure out how to handle the APs at the parking gates.

Profiling. They can observe how he answers, not so much the answers themselves. Although I've never known Disney to do this...

He's obviously too young to ask for ID... :)

Is that info on the screen the CM is looking at?

Just wondering - does your sister and your daughter have the same last name? If not and your daughter didn't have ID but your sister did but under a different name, I think the Cast Member did the correct thing - kinda assumed the worst.

However, I think the Cast Member should have directed your sister to have you and your daughter go to Guest Relations to get the money back.

If Disney is going to charge the same price for a child AP as they do an adult AP and give them the same "benefit" booklet, then they better have the same benefits! So if one of my kids travels to Disney with say, my parent's, their AP should be able to be used just like an adults. Whether that child is 4 or 14 they should get the same parking and discounts given. If they want an ID for someone so young before they can use their benefits, then they should put the child's picture on the pass. JMHO

If they are not going to let my kids use their AP the same way I do, then they should charge less plain and simple.

The web site states something to the effect that benefits are subject to change without notice. An AP's main job is to get you into the park multiple times. People shouldn't buy them for the benefits because you just can't rely on having them.

Also, no one said a child can't use their AP for parking. The sticky area is proving that AP belongs to that child. Disney doesn't state you have to prove ownership, but they also don't state that you don't have to.
