I was on the WDW site checking somethings out when one of those live chat boxes popped-up. So I thought I'd ask a few questions, here is a cut&paste of that dialog:

you: If you have an annual pass then you already have paid for admission on your birthday, right

Chelsea: Annual Passholders are provided other options. One moment while I check on that for you.

you: thanks

Chelsea: Yes, you have several options which are available for you to select once you arrive at the Park with your confirmation message and your proper ID. You can receive: A birthday fun card in an amount equal to the price of a 1-day Magic Your Way base ticket* for you to use on your birthday for merchandise, recreation or fun activities at select participating locations at Walt Disney World® Resort; or

A special birthday FASTPASS® badge+ for certain attractions at the Theme Park you visit on your birthday; or

A 1-day Magic Your Way base ticket for you to use any time until your next birthday.

*Ticket price at gate, excluding tax. Adults receive card in the amount of an adult ticket; children (ages 3-9) receive card in the amount of a child ticket.

you: WOW cool. Do you get the fastpass badge if you have Magic your way tickets or only annual passholders?

Chelsea: Only Annual Passholders get this.

you: thanks.

I had no idea, I thought we were just sol like the 40%(3/4) deal.

Thanks for posting this. I had no idea either & I just figured that if you had an AP you were not eligible for the birthday deal. :cool1:

Thanks! I was wondering the same thing, but just assumed we would get NOTHING if we were AP holders! Good info!

Note that the FastPass option is good for the birthday person and up to 5 members of his/her party.

Also, the number of FastPass badges issued per day is limited, and may not be available after 11am.

That's great news! I figured with an AP you didn't get anything either. We always go for DH's birthday so he'll get a little surprise from Disney. Cool.

You must register your B-day and print your confirmation to take with you along with ID to guest services. You can not just show up on your B-day and expect a "treat".

Pre-registration is not necessary (at least for free admission).
From the website:

Do I need to register online prior to going to Walt Disney World® Resort to receive free admission on my birthday in 2009?

As long as you have the appropriate ID and proof of your date of birth, you can take advantage of this birthday offer at the gate. The reason for registering online is to save you time. You won't have to wait while you fill out the forms at the gate.

When they first announced the deal for 2009 I thought we were screwed as annual passholders. Then they came out with the details and I was surprised and pleased! I registered both me and my DH for our birthdays next year as we were already planning to be at WDW for mine and now made a point of going to CA to Disneyland for my DH's birthday. We already know we want the fast passes!

I also heard that if you take the MYW one-day pass option to be used anytime in the next year, you can upgrade it to whatever ticket type you want (10-day no exp, for example), but it must be used by the birthday person (not necessarily on the birthday). So, basically $75 off your next ticket purchase. We're planning a quick trip in Feb for DS's b-day, and even though he won't need a new ticket for that trip, we're planning to buy a new 10-day no-exp for him while we're there for $75 off, and probably just use 1 day. We'll do the same for my b-day in October. :cool1:

Disney's website seems to have conflicting information.:confused3
I am a Passholder (or have a valid Multi-Day Ticket or a Seasonal Pass that I will use for admission on my birthday in 2009), so I don't need to take advantage of this offer. If I register, is there anything else I could receive on my birthday?

I am anxious to find out how this works. DSis will be leaving WDW on her b-day and she has her hopper already. I am hoping she can get the gift card and use it before her flight home.

Quick question. DS9 has a child's PAP, but will turn 10 before his pass needs renewal. Do you think his gift card would be the price of a child's ticket or an adult's since 10 is the adult cut off? He's so excited he wants to wear a shirt that says something about Disney thinks I'm an adult. :rotfl2:

If he is 9 or less on his birthday when he gets the gift card he will get the child's price. If he is there on his 10h birthday or later it will be the adult price.

What I forgot to ask the CM was : we're going on my daughter's 3rd birthday, but when I tried to register her I was not allowed since she gets in free at 3. Do we still get the fastpass badge?

Ooooo...good question! Disney defines "children" as ages 3-9. I would assume that on her 3rd birthday, she is *officially* a child. I would think that she should get her birthday present:yay: .

If one's vacation started on their child's 3rd birthday, wouldn't they be obligated* to purchase a ticket (and DDP, if applicable) for this child? I don't think it would be fair for Disney to say that she must be paid for as of her 3rd birthday (because she is a child) but she can't have her birthday present (because she is still an "infant")....they can't have it both ways, can they?

*I know that there are people who would not identify their "just-turned-3" child to avoid paying for them. They would also fall into the "you-can't-have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too" group. This falls into an entirely OT discussion so I will not go on;) .

Then why does Disney say otherwise? See my post above yours. From the link to the Disney offer, FAQ:

What ages are covered in this offer?
This offer is good for anyone over age 3.

Also from the FAQ website...

"Why are children under 3 excluded from this offer?
Children under 3 are not required to have an admission ticket to enter the Theme Parks. "

...but children who *are* 3 ARE required to have a ticket....

My question is, what *are* they ON their 3rd birthday?
For the purpose of this promo, they are UNDER 3 (nothing free for you....)
For day-to-day operations, they ARE 3 (more $$$ for us...)

( I just read that out loud and I sound like a pirate!pirate: )
That is what has me confused.:confused3
