AP for January Discounts?

We're going to the world for our annual week in October. This year though, DH and I are thinking we may also try and sneak down for a long weekend in January without kids.

I'm crunching the numbers on different passes to keep this option open without having to buy new tix, but wanted to make sure I understood the variables.

I've seen that there are sometimes room discounts associated with APs. Does this happen often (and do they typically happen in January?) How good are these discounts 10%, 20%.. or does it vary? -Are all hotels inlcuded-we'd probably want to stay in a deluxe since its our first trip without kids in a VERY long time? (Once a few years ago we got a disount postcard that got us AKL rooms for 109 a night--- could prices be that good?)

Are there any other benefits/discounts associated with an AP that I should consider in comparing packages?

I am looking for this information as well. While we are there in September we are contemplating upgrading our passes to AP...and then we'll have to go back during the year!

I would love to surprise my oldest daughter with a trip to the world for her birthday (New Year's Eve) ...and go down the end of the first week of January. But...I am wondering what kind of rates we'd be looking at for a Value...and wondering when those codes will come out!

January is a great time to go to WDW. The weather is wonderful albeit a little unpredictable. It's usually shorts during the day; jeans and a light-weight jacket at night. This will be our 3rd trip for New Years Eve. We are at the CR for 12/30 and 12/31 and there are no discounts. It's straight rack rate and that was the case 2004 & 2005. On New Years day, we will move to BWI for 1/1 thru 1/6. For the BWI stay, we already got AAA discount of 15%. When AP rates come out, we probably will get another 5-10% off. That has been our experience these past 2 years and we hope it will happen again this year.

Discounts for the general public for January are usually good. With the AP, they will be slightly better. Sometimes it's a certain dollar amount off, sometimes it's a percentage but normally the discount will be higher for Deluxes. Bottom line - there are great discounts in January, the weather is super and the AP is worth it for that 2nd trip in a year.

The idea of getting the AP for your fall trip and then using it again in January is EXACTLY what we did. Be warned...as I said...this is our 3rd year as AP holders and twice-a-year visitors!
