We have AP, that expire in June. We are going again to use up the last days of it. I am renewing mine regardless, since I will be back in Sept and then again in December. My DD5 though, it isn't worth renewing for her, she is only going back in December.

We are in the process of buying a DVC resale (if all goes well), so will hopefully be members soon (we WILL be members at some point though!)

My question is, If all goes well and we are DVC members by our renewal date, will be get the DVC AP renewal discount? Or, did our original pass have to be a DVC AP?

You would be able to get the renewal discount. The way the DVC AP price structure is setup, you only save about $16 on a renewal compared to a new pass. So you need to decide if it's worth losing 3 months of use to save $16 (a June renewal effective vs September new).

Ahh, so you are saying don't renew, just buy a new one in Sept, since it will only cost $16 more than a DVC renewal and I will have three extra months to use it? Thanks for telling me that, I am going to do just that!

You can still get a DVC discount buying the AP. Just bring your DVC card and photo ID when you buy your pass. They will give you the DVC discount. The amount differs depending on if you're buying an AP or a PAP. Once you get your card, be sure to sign up for the Members Only site on the DVC website. It will give you the discount information there.
