On Saturday, I called Disney and made a reservation for two rooms for my four friends and I at the POP using my AP discount. I needed two rooms that connect and I am the only one with an AP.

After I hung up, I released that I had two reservations for two rooms instead of one reservation for two rooms. The discount was substancial so I do not want to change anything, but I am concerned that I will not be able to use the AP discount on the second room, since I am not staying in that room.

Does anyone have any experience with this problem? When I get to WDW in October will they honor both rooms with the AP discount?

Thanks for any help you can give me!!

Cathy

It's my understanding that the room that you are staying in will be the only room that will receive the AP discount. It won't matter if it's on one reservation or two. If you were able to do that, then AP holders (like myself!), would reserve blocks of rooms for friends and family. Hope the info helps!

The way I understand it is the same. The AP holder must be staying in the room. And you won't be able to be on both reservations. You can only reserve one room with your AP.

An AP holder used to be able to reserve up to three rooms for him/herself and friends/family. That policy changed a few years ago and now an AP holder can only get his/her room with the AP discount. Any additional rooms reserved by the AP holder will be charged at the regular rate.

Not sure if this is accurate or not but I know that with the AAA discount I can reserve more than one room as I did two reservation on one call. One was placed in my name, the other in my daughter's. The required deposits where the same, and both reservations show the same rates and amounts due. On mine it says w/daughters name and on her's it says with my name. I am the only one with AAA and the reservationist knew this and said no problem as you can do three. I would think it is the same for AP but maybe not.

Since AP discounts are a lot more then AAA, they no longer allow reservations for more then 1 room unless a person in the 2nd room also has an AP.

I have just returned from a Grand Floridian stay and had two rooms reserved under my name and received the AP discount on both. Room #1 was listed with my name and family member, Room #2 was listed with the other 2 family member names. I did receive the AP discount for these two rooms.

When did this change come into effect? We went last year and booked 2 rooms using the AP discount. I believe as long as the AP holder books the room and stays in the room and both reservations are for the same time period there isn't an issue.

This was changed a few years back. I have never tried to reserve 2 rooms when only one of us has an AP but I can't remember the last time I had to show my AP. If they really want to enforce this they have to have us show the AP at check-in. I guess this is why people are confused!

The change was about 3 years ago, but like you see from some PP there are still CMs that still books multiple rooms, even though they are not suppose too:)

i can't remember the last time I showed an AP for my reservation either. I'm sure its one of those situations where you most likely "will get away with it" if the CM at check-in doesn't verify and physically check to see an AP before handing keys, however as others have mentioned, there is the possibility you get that one CM who will ask to see APs and correct the rate for the second room to the rack rate when a second AP can't be furnished.

Here's a related question: DH and I both have AP's. Can we reserve 2 rooms even if we stay in one, and my sister & nephew stay in the other? Does my name need to be on one room and his on the other? How would that work?

I would try calling and see if they will reserve 2 rooms using the 1 AP. I can't find any where that says the policy has changed. As long as the reservations are for the same time period there shouldn't be a problem.
If you do call and are able to do it would you mind posting and letting us know.

I asked the orginal question about the AP discount and have called Disney to clarify. I was told that I can reserve up to three rooms using my AP. I made it clear that both rooms were on different reservations but we were traveling together. The lady said no problem, so I am good to go.

Thanks everyone for your responses!!

Assuming that the CM won't let you book a room without an AP holder in it, then you book one and your DH books the other as lead guest. Put your sister & nephew on whichever reservation you choose (although, make sure that you have only 2 people over 18 in each room; otherwise, you'll get an extra charge.) After you check in, swap room keys so the appropriate people sleep in each room. Disney doesn't do bed checks.
